The Hanif’s Guide to Saving Health Al-Baqara (Sura 2:219) R.M. Harnisch

BISMILA-HIR RAHMA-NIR RAHIM Allah’s Way to Health Beloved friends of Allah, this topic of discussion you will find very interesting and beneficial. This is vital information which affects the lives of every living soul on earth…health! Someone has said, health is not everything but without it, everything is nothing! You may be the richest man, but if you have lost your health, even if you had gold as sand, you could not enjoy life! Our aim should be to find out how to retain our God-given health and be a blessing to humanity! Allah is the most compassionate and kind to the family of man. His care for us is far greater than how our earthly parents care for us. As our parents gave us counsel in our childhood, even so Allah will give to us careful instruction as to preserve our health. Following His instructions will keep our souls from the sinful pollutions of this world! We need to be much in prayer (du’a) over this issue of what constitutes ‘saving health’. To enjoy health, we must heed the counsel sent down to us. Notice the words recorded in the Honored Qur’an, which has to do with retaining health: ‘They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: “In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit…’ Sura 2:219 Al-Baqara Allah knows both the health destroying effects of wine (alcohol) as well as the soul destroying effects of gambling. So He informs us of these dangers so that we can be educated to avoid them. Notice the words of the ancient prophet Solomon (Taurat) Proverbs 20:1 “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” And again Isaiah…(Taurat) Isaiah 5:11 “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” We can clearly see that alcoholic beverages are clearly forbidden (haram) to the followers of Allah. If we wish to be among the ‘Mutaqeen’ (Righteous) we will avoid all use of alcohol for drink.

Allah’s Saving Health!

Are there other items which many use as food which are clearly forbidden by Allah? And why would not Allah give us clear instruction as to what is ‘halal’ (lawful) and what is ‘haram’ (unclean)? Allah is the Creator and the Creator knows the best fuel with which to run the human body. People today consume items as food which are harmful for us to ingest into our system and shortens life. In the same way you would not put dirty fuel into your car, we should only put the purest food into your living system. Everyone who has ever purchased an automobile and wishes to use it wisely, will take time to study the ‘owners manual’ which the manufacturer has included, so that the owner can obtain maximum use of the car for many years. How much more important are our bodies? The bodies given to us by Allah were made to bring glory and honor to Him. Should it not be very important to take time to become acquainted with what constitutes ‘saving health’? People will spend years to educate themselves to become skilful in a trade or occupation, spend tens of thousands of dollars to become educated to become a doctor, lawyer, pharmacist, etc, but are often very uneducated as to how to preserve health! Are there foods and drink which are harmful, yet we may not know it? The ancient Zabur has a promise from Allah which all should know. (Zabur) Psalm 67:2 “That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.” It is to be no secret that Allah wishes for all nations to experience health! He wants the saving health message to be brought to all. Allah wishes only the best health for all His human creations. He has made known to the sons of men what is the best health possible while we are here on planet earth. But will we pay attention to this sacred counsel?

The Halal and Haram!

In the Taurat given to Musa, Allah has outlined for us the clean and unclean animals. The unclean (haram) animals were not to be used as food. In Leviticus Chapter 11 is clearly outlined both the clean and unclean animals. Leviticus 11:3 “Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.” That is to mean whatever animal which is cloven footed, (those which have a split hoof, such as cattle, deer, goats, sheep, etc.) as well as chew the cud. These are considered by Allah the animals which are clean for food. Then it names the animals which are unclean (haram), and the first one on the list of unclean (haram) animals is the ‘camel’. Allah gives us the reason…Leviticus 11:4 “Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean [haram] unto you.” Although the camel chews the cud, he does not split the hoof. The camel has no hoof. Therefore the camel is considered unclean (haram) for food. It continues the list which are unclean (haram)…coney, (rock badger or hyrax), the rabbit, the swine (hogs or pigs) even all creeping things such as the mouse, rats, lizards, snakes, except those like the locusts and grasshoppers. Leviticus 11. Unclean animals such as camels, horses, donkeys, etc. were made as beasts of burden, made to carry man and transport his goods, but were never meant for food. The swine are among the most unclean! Since the days of this counsel the nature of swine has not changed. They are still unclean for food. Chapter eleven also lists the fowl and the sea creatures which Allah considers safe (halal) and those which are unclean (haram) for food. Leviticus 11:9 mentions the fish which are considered clean (halal) are those which have both fins and scales. Those sea creatures which do not have both fins and scales are considered unclean (haram). Such as eels, shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, all shell fish and fish without both fins and scales. These are considered unclean (haram) and forbidden as food. Among the fowl, birds of prey, such as eagles, ospreys, hawks, owls, etc. are considered unclean. Others are scavenger birds as ravens, buzzards, crows, vultures etc. these are also among the unclean (haram). Remember the ‘saving health’ of Allah is for all nations. He does not pick one particular group of people as the only ones to enjoy good health. He wants all nations to enjoy health. Allah wishes all to be among the ‘Mutaqeen’, He wishes only the best for us. Therefore He is making known His saving health among all nations. Dear reader, Allah has your best interest in mind.

Saving Health for the Mutaqeen!

As we are now living in the last days of earth’s history, it is even more important that we pay close attention to our health. It is only through our minds that Allah can communicate with us through the Holy Spirit (Ruh Allah) and through His Word. Therefore if our minds are clogged with unclean foods, we cannot understand Allah’s messages to us. As Allah reveals His wishes to us in regarding the proper food, we must submit to His will in reference to what is meant for food. Now if it is your desire to obtain the best health, it is wise to leave off all flesh (meat) for food, even from among the clean animals. We need to revert back to the diet of Eden. This ought to be our goal and aim in both diet and lifestyle. In the original Eden home, they did not use flesh (meat) as food. In the Garden of Bliss only fruits, grains and nuts were eaten. After men sinned, vegetables were added to the food list. Genesis 3:18. It was not until the time of the flood, that animals were allowed for food, and then only the clean animals. The reason animals were then allowed was because the earth was destroyed by the flood and would take years for even a few trees to bear fruit to appear again. Thus clean animals were allowed for food, during this difficult period. But to obtain the best health, ‘saving health’, it is far better to abstain from the use of all flesh for food. In the original home of Eden, we have in Genesis the ideal diet for man. Taurat Genesis 1:29 “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat [food].” These include grains, fruits, nuts. After sin came in, Allah included the vegetables or herbs of the field. Genesis 3:18 “…thou shalt eat the herb of the field;” However, if we still choose to use flesh (meat) for food, it remains our duty to… “make a difference between the unclean and clean…” Taurat Leviticus 11:47 It is our solemn obligation to please Allah and submit to His way. All who are striving to be among the ‘Hanif ’ and be listed among the ‘Mutaqeen’ will gladly yield to Allah’s Will. God wishes you to be healthy! “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Injeel 3 John 1:2 Dear reader is that your choice today? This is our only wish for all. May the Eternal Peace of Allah rest with you this day!
