AIMS OF THE COURSE
To give learners the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationallyspecific qualification in the legal sector.
To give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life and to allow access to employment opportunities in the legal sector. The specification is designed to appeal to both full-time learners interested in a career in law, and to those who already have experience of working in the sector.
STRUCTURE AND CONTENT
Certificate In Applied Law (equivalent to one GCE AS Level, 30 credits) Unit 1 – Dispute Solving In The Legal System Unit 2 – Understanding Law Making Unit 3 – Aspects of Legal Liability Subsidiary Diploma In Applied Law (equivalent to one GCE A Level, 60 credits) Units – 1-3 as per the Certificate plus a further three units from modules such as: Unit 4 – Unlawful Homicide And Police Powers Unit 5 – Aspects Of Property Offences And Police Powers Unit 6 – Contract Law
Unit 7 – Consumer Law Unit 8 – Aspects Of The Law Of Tort Unit 9 – Aspects Of Employment Law Unit 10 – Aspects Of Family Law
ASSESSMENT
• All BTEC Nationals are internally assessed. Learners can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
WHERE CAN I GO AFTER COMPLETING THIS COURSE?
Enter employment in the legal sector. Progress onto higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher National in Business (Law). Progress onto a Foundation Degree in Business and Law.
