New Charity Shop Launch!

@ The Waverley Hub

Supported Living Service, who just before Christmas passed her CQC interview to become the Registered Manager for the Service.

This is an excellent achievement and sets both Barbora and the Service up for a first class start to 2023!

Helping people to combat the cost of living crisis

The Waverley in Weymouth is helping many vulnerable families in the community. With the Hub activities, the Nest Social Community Shop (now with over 1000 people registered to shop and benefiting from affordable food every week) and the Community Café (offering affordable food in a fabulous café environment). The Waverley Community Hub is going from strength to strength, helping more and more people within the community as every week goes by.

Now to supplement this we are going to open the Waverley Hub Charity Shop! Helping people obtain clothes and essential items such as bedding. Everything from toys and books to household goods. In fact anything that you think could be useful to someone else.

So if you have anything in good order that fits the bill and that you would like to donate, please take it to The Waverley or to Faulkner House. Items taken to Faulkner House should be clearly labelled as donations for the Charity Shop and should be taken to the office on the first floor to the right of the main staircase (former Development Team office). We can accept small electrical appliances but not large appliances such as TVs etc.

Have a post-Christmas clear out and help local people/families in Weymouth to cope with the cost of living crisis. Thank you to everyone who has already donated to help establish the Waverley Hub/East Boro Charity Shop - it is very much appreciated.

If you have any queries regarding donations or the Charity Shop itself, please contact Michelle Woodward, Waverley Hub Activities Co-ordinator mwoodward@ebht.org.uk or call her 07787 296 098.

February is Data Protection Month

UK Data Protection law (GDPR) introduces a duty on all organisations to report certain personal data breaches to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). As part of this duty, it also requires us to ensure we have robust breach internal reporting procedures and that we must keep a record of all personal data breaches regardless of whether we are required to notify the ICO.

What is a personal data breach?

A personal data breach involves any breach of data security which may include the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unlawful disclosure or access to personal information. This may be an email about a customer sent to the incorrect email address, over disclosing the address of an individual over the phone or documents containing personal information left in a public place.

What should I do if I think there has been a breach?

If you think there may have been a breach of information, please email dataprotection@aster.co.uk as soon as possible. We will be able to take some details from you and tell you what to do next. We won’t judge or blame you for anything, everyone makes mistakes including us! By letting us know as soon as you think it’s happened, we can risk assess whether there has been a breach and work out the next steps to minimise any risks to the business or our customers and help to prevent similar breaches.

The above article leads nicely onto the subject of our photo consent forms. We have updated East Boro/Aster Group forms which are stored in the Staff Intranet area of our website. All signed photo consent forms are to be supplied digitally which will enable Comms colleagues to easily search should they require.

Just to clarify that for all photos and videos, anyone whose face can be seen – even in the background – has to have signed one of our photo consent forms. This is especially the case for Facebook and our website.

Please can all images sent to me for print purposes have the tenants/staff members names added to the title or tagged into the info on the jpeg. That will save me pestering you for the information. Unfortunately I will not be able to use images unless I have a copy of the signed photo consent form/s. Once stored they will not have to be supplied again. You can download the forms below.

I also want to thank you for supplying images to me for all publications. It is much appreciated and adds the personal touch to our tenants’ publications. Any questions please let me know, Sue Hole Graphic Designer

Restorative Practice status renewed Enham from the skies

We are pleased to share that our Registered Restorative Organisation status from the Restorative Justice Council (RJC) has been renewed.

Following evidence we submitted, our application for re-accreditation was successful. As part of the Aster Way, we’re committed to ensuring you all have the opportunity to benefit from restorative principles. So far, we’ve trained 1,021 colleagues in Restorative Practice. So if you would like to find out more about using the right tools to build strong relationships and positively address differences in opinion when it occurs.

Emily.Pieroux@aster.co.uk to book onto the training.

It has now been over three months since we completed our merger with Enham Trust. We recently took some drone footage of the village and spoke to colleagues about what makes the charity so special.

Run the Bath Half for the Aster Foundation

Nothing is more rewarding then crossing the finish line, except crossing the line and knowing that as well as reaching a personal goal, you just did something amazing for the benefit of others.

Our charity, the Aster Foundation is looking for seven colleagues to complete our ten-person team running the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 15 October 2023 . The Aster Foundation is covering the race fee, all they ask is that you commit to raising as much money as possible with a minimum of £150 in sponsorship. It’s first come, first served, so don’t delay.

New this year; share your recipes

Quick, easy and healthy chia jam

Instead of cooking fruit with sugar to help it set, like traditional jam, all you need to do is use mashed supermarket frozen fruit (defrosted) or fresh soft fruit and stir in a few tablespoons of chia seeds. Within a few minutes, the chia seeds will absorb the fruit juices and thicken it to a jammy consistency.

Use two cups of fruit to two tablespoons of chia seeds. If your fruit was very juicy or you’d like a thicker jam, stir in more chia seeds, one teaspoon at a time. You can make small amounts of chia fruit jam to use when required. From personal experience I have found that this works very well with raspberries, sweetened to taste with powdered low calorie sweetener - delicious.

If you have any recipes you would like to share please Sue.Hole@aster.co.uk
