Have a look at the castors! Remember to tighten the castors on your book trolleys after an initial period of use (about 6 months.). We also recommend that you check the castor attachments once a year and tighten when needed. Store the tool you receive with your book trolleys in a safe place. The book return cabinet Bob is lockable, functional, and easily positioned. A strong cabinet for use inside the library, a Bob cabinet can be used on its own or several units can be put together. The trapezoidal shape makes different configurations possible; place them in a bow, a curve or create a midfloor “snake”. Use different cabinets for different media making it easier to sort and shelve returned stock. Bob is available in two colours: anthracite and red. It is delivered assembled with adjustable feet, a bracket and chain to secure the cabinet and an easily manoeuvred basket with a handle to lift or pull behind you, see detailed picture. Well board is a board material based entirely on paper with extremely high bending strength in relation to its own weight. The well board material is a sandwich construction where the honeycomb type core layer is based on corrugated cardboard. The material is environmentally friendly, built largely of reused paper fibre and conventional paper glue and is recyclable. Please note that the table is strengthened with strips of solid wood and can carry a load of up to 125 kg. We however recommend strongly against sitting on the table.

Clean with a soft cloth, either dry or wet. When needed use a pH-neutral soap/detergent diluted with water or Superclean fluid, 2021, concentrated anti-bacterial liquid cleaning for all types of plastic surfaces. Use with Dry clean cloths, 2024 or 2025 for best results. Do not clean with abrasives as they can leave marks. Avoid acidic products, ingredients and products that contain ammonia. Most of the furniture can be used outdoors. Remember that when plastic furniture is exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time the colour may fade. The fact is that no additives are available in the market today to protect your plastic furniture from fading.

On the following pages you will find text and pictures showing you how to work with plastic film, adhesive tape and tools. You will also find everything you need to know about your choice of product – all based on what you want to do. Good luck!
Protecting books Products Tools

Cut the film, leaving a 2-3 cm. margin around all the edges of the open book.
You can easily remove air bubbles in the film by puncturing them with a needle then smoothing out the film.
Peel off the backing paper (or backing film if using Filmolux Soft), see page 102, about 10 cm, and affix to the edge of the book cover. Do not forget the overlap!
Choose a film size about 4 cm. wider than the height of the book you want to protect.
Carefully work the film into the book joint using the burnishing bone and continue onto the book spine. IMPORTANT: Be careful not to stretch the film when applying it in the book joint area.
Turn the book over and complete the application.
Cut the overlapping film diagonally at all Fold the overlapping film and affix to the inside of the book cover. four corners, and make wedge-shaped cuts at the top and bottom shoulders of the book.
The tabs at the top and bottom can be tucked into the back of the spine with the burnishing bone or folding tool, or, in the case of paperbacks, simply cut off.
Slowly peel away the backing paper under the protection film while pressing the film simultaneously onto the cover with a squeegee or soft cloth. Always work from the centre to the edges.

Strengthening paperbacks Paperbacks are taking a more important role in the library. They are not expensive, but are 足unfortunately not always suitably bound for library use. Filmolux H200, see page 103, is a fast and simple method of considerably prolonging the life of paperbacks without great expense. Filmolux H200 is specially designed to strengthen and protect paperbacks. The film is applied to the outside of the cover, with a strip of Filmolux 609, see page 102, on the book spine. Another method, which we recommend, is to affix Filmolux H200 to the inside of the book cover, apply a strip of Filmoplast P90, see page 105, or Filmoplast SH, see page 106, to strengthen the book and then protect the whole book with one of our surface protection films, such as Filmolux Soft, see page 102. This method prevents the cover coming away from the book and gives you a very durable finished product. The following instructions demonstrate the first method, which is the slightly simpler of the two. Products

Place the book with its front cover facing up (A) on the squared backing paper. Measure the book size, leaving an approx. 3-4 cm. margin around all the edges. Turn the book over so that the back is facing up (B). Measure as before and cut the film to the required size.
Apply the film to the front and back cover by peeling back the backing paper gently while pressing the film simultaneously onto the cover using a soft cloth or squeegee. Always work from the centre to the edges.
Cut off the overlapping film.
To strengthen the spine, measure and cut the Filmolux 609 paper tape to the required length, leaving an overlap of 3-4 cm. Apply the Filmolux to the spine by pulling the backing paper gently from underneath, while pressing simultaneously against the spine. For the best results, use a soft cloth.

A flat, wrinkle-free surface is of utmost importance for a perfect finished product. Previously folded papers must be smoothed out – try dampening the document lightly then passing a warm iron over it.
Measure the document to be laminated and cut a piece of laminating film, leaving an overlap of approx. 5 cm. on all sides.
Peel the backing paper slowly out from under the laminating film while pressing the film simultaneously onto the document with a soft cloth or squeegee. Always work from the centre to the edges.
Cut off the overlapping film.
The label should be applied to the book spine first, ready for the Filmolux to be affixed. In cases where only the label is to be protected, we recommend using Filmolux 610. To ensure permanent adhesion, the film should be applied to the label with an overlap of at least 1 cm.
For the protection of barcode labels, a softener-free film such as Filmolux Libre should always be used. The reason is simple; repeated scanning of an unprotected barcode with a laser scanner will rub away the code which could make it unreadable. Filmolux Libre provides effective protection for the barcode and prevents bleeding of the colour or ink which could make it difficult for the scanner to read the barcode.

Repairing tears Products Tools

Both Filmoplast P and Filmoplast R are suitable for repairing tears and holes in modern paper. Filmoplast P is particularly transparent and can be removed with water after years of adhesion to a stable surface. Filmoplast R is considerably thinner than Filmoplast P and is removable with heat.
REPAIRING TEARS WITH FILMOPLAST P To repair a tear, take a strip from the dispenser ensuring it is longer than the tear. Position the strip over the tear and rub firmly with a burnishing bone. The rubbing process presses the adhesive to the paper while removing air from between the paper fibres, thus providing a neat repair. Trim off any overlapping material.
REPAIRING TEARS WITH FILMOPLAST R To repair a tear, take a strip from the dispenser ensuring it is larger than the damaged area. Place the strip over the tear/hole. Start sealing at one end with the iron and continue along the strip in an even, circular motion until the desired effect is achieved. Follow the same procedure to repair holes, but be sure to lay a sheet of silicone paper behind the page with the hole to prevent the adhesive sticking to the underlying page.

To re-insert a torn out page, pull a strip from the dispenser ensuring it is longer than the page.
Position the tape lengthways and apply it first to the page to be inserted and then to the adjacent book page. Rub the strip firmly with the burnishing bone to ensure good adhesion.
It is only recommendable to repair a few torn out pages with this method. For repairing several pages, the book needs re-binding.
Trim off any overlapping material.

There are two different products for strengthening and repairing book joints. Depending on the thickness of the book block, you can use either the white, long-fibre Filmoplast P90 paper tape or the stronger Filmoplast SH textile tape. Whichever you select, the instructions are the same.
To strengthen and repair the inner book joint of a paperback, pull a strip from the dispenser ensuring it is longer than the cover.
Holding the strip lengthways apply it first to the book block, then to the book cover. Rub the strip firmly with the burnishing bone to ensure good adhesion. Trim off any overlapping material.

To repair a book spine with Filmoplast T, cut a strip from the roll ensuring it is longer than the length of the book.
Remove half of the backing paper lengthwise and place tape on the centre of the spine.
Rub the Filmoplast firmly onto the book cover, remove the backing paper completely and rub on the rest of the Filmoplast.
Cut off overlapping edges in a V cut and press the tabs into the back of the spine. When repairing paperbacks, simply cut off overlapping tape.

99 Repairing loose book spines Depending on the extent of the damage, you can also build up the spine using a paper strip or a tunnel*. We recommend this method when the spine is completely loose. Products Cloth Tools

Apply the gauze and leave a piece on the outside, which is to be glued to the binder stock.
Open the book, insert the gauze under the binder stock and apply adhesive there too**.
Measure out the gauze, paper strip, and tape to fit the book. Carefully remove the binder stock. Remove any ripped paper from the spine of the book. (If the book is thick, make a tunnel*)
Apply adhesive to the spine and under the binder stock. (The adhesive will last longer if you pour only as much as you need into a smaller container. You can also dilute the adhesive with water.)
To continue working without glueing the block to the spine of the binder, attach a paper strip or a tunnel*.
Glue the tunnel to the spine of the binder.
Press the binder stock over the break and make sure there are no gaps. For best results, let it dry before continuing to apply the tape to strengthen and hide the ”wound”.

*) Use a ”tunnel” with thick books to strengthen the spine. Measure out the width of the spine with a sheet of A4 paper, fold it in three, and glue one part to the other, so that it forms a tunnel. Glue the tunnel to the book instead of the paper strip and also glue the part that lines up with the spine of the binder. This gives a split spine. After that proceed as above. **) If you ca not tuck the gauze under the binder stock, place it on the outside. You can hide it later when you apply the tape.

Repairs with a needle and thread For thin, stapled brochures.

First remove one of the staples and place the needle in the outside of the spine. Leave a bit of thread to hold on to. Products Tools

Make holes between these staples in the middle of the pages and let the needle come out on the outside again. Remove one of the staples, insert the needle into the inside and back out again through the middle hole.
Now you have two large stitches on the inside of the pages and two on the outside of the spine. Tie the threads together in a strong knot. Apply plastic to the spine to prevent the knot from coming untied.
Remove the middle strip from the perforated backing paper. Apply the cut-out to the book spine with the wings pointing upwards.
Remove the backing paper from the right side and smooth down onto the cover and spine. Repeat on the other side.
For extra protection, use Easy Wings on the bottom part of the spine too. If you do this, make sure the wings are pointing downwards, with the book the right way up.
Strengthening book spines with Easy Wings Products

Strengthening newspapers and magazines with Easy Hold Open the book and attach the wings firmly to the inside of the cover.
Position the lower half of the strengthener on the centre fold of the newspaper with its neck just above the top edge to avoid difficulties in closing the newspaper.

Fold the strengthener over and position the upper half on the outside of the newspaper.
Open the newspaper in the middle. Remove the middle strip from the perforated backing paper.
Remove the remaining four parts of the backing paper and apply the film using finger pressure. The bottom part of the newspaper is strengthened in the same way.

Choose a protection film which is about 3-4 cm. wider than the height of book. Fix the film onto the support and peel back a little of the backing paper.
Place the book spine against the guide rail and draw the film over the book. Rub the film firmly with a squeegee (3167), see page 107, or cloth to ensure good adhesion.
Rotate the book 180° while covering it with film. Apply firm pressure to the book cover, rubbing the film with the squeegee or cloth from the centre to the edges.
Slightly tighten the film and cut it off with the machine’s built-in knife. To replace roll As for Tape Dispenser TA2, (see below).

These dispensers are suitable for Neschen’s self-adhesive tapes up to 60 mm. width. Max. roll length 50 m, max. diameter 120 mm.
TO REPLACE ROLL Loosen the ridged screw (black) at the top of one side so that the lateral guide plate can be lifted off. Insert tape roll. Peel off about 15 cm. of the backing paper and draw the film through the splitting device until the adhesive side rests on the blade with a little overlap. As you draw the film, the

Matt or gloss?
We continue to expand our range of plastic film and tape in different qualities, thicknesses and sizes. The following questions will help you to focus on things to think about before you decide what to buy.
Which is better? Gloss plastic film strengthens the colours on a book cover. Gloss plastic is often used to protect photographs. Matt film does not reflect light in the same way as gloss. Barcode labels protected by gloss film can be a little difficult to read. You need to decide what is best for your own requirements.
Best before date? How long will the plastic film last? Of course, plastic film does not come with a best before date. However, the glue used on self-adhesive film can age. For optimal adhesion, we recommend a life of two years. This applies to unused film on a roll. It does not mean you can not use film older than that, but just remember the glue may have deteriorated a little. The quality of the film will not have deteriorated. Keep the rolls in a cool dark place if buying large quantities to use over a long period.
Easy to reposition? Are you a beginner or maybe nervous of making a mistake? We offer repositionable plastic film which can be taken off the cover and moved to another position. If you are not sure which to choose, we recommend Eurobib’s Filmolux Soft book covering plastic. You can also loosen the film up to four hours after it was applied to a book. After 24 hours, the glue will have stabilised and the film is then firmly adhered to the cover. Other repositionable plastic film has more instant adhesion and must be repositioned immediately.

Your guide to plastics Specifications and glossary Most library accessories such as media packaging are made of plastic. In recent years, environmental impact has become an increasingly important factor when choosing plastic materials. At Eurobib we believe that stewardship of our finite resources is important. We are also concerned about the environmental impact of our products. Obviously our goal is to market good, cost-effective products. As a customer you are entitled to information about the environmental impact of our products. We have therefore compiled a short and simple guide to the most common plastics found in our products describing their properties and environmental impact.

Polyethylene (PE) White to colourless thermoplastic manufactured through polymerization of ethylene. Relatively impervious to chemicals (except strong oxidizing acids and certain organic solvents), low water absorption, good impact resistance. The plastic burns easily, has poor weather resistance, and limited heat resistance. Environmental Impact: The plastic is not classified as hazardous to health and is not believed to be hazardous to the environment. No special anti-pollution devices are needed during incineration.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) Semi-crystalline thermoplastic, rigid and hard with good wear resistance and low friction coefficient, but with low impact resistance. Good heat resistance, resistance to UV light and low water absorption, good electrical properties, which are retained at high humidity and temperatures. Good chemical resistance. Environmental Impact: Classified as a non-hazardous material. Insoluble non-toxic solid without demonstrable risk to the environment. Carbon monoxide combined with irritating and/or toxic substances are released during incineration.
Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Transparent, amorphous thermoplastic. Good optical properties, high hardness, good finish and outdoor weathering properties. Easily attacked by chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, and strong acids, but tolerates oil and bases. Often called Plexiglas. Environmental Impact: Essentially insoluble in water. Low probability of bioaccumulation. No degradation in soil or water. Incineration and thermal degradation lead to release of toxic, irritating and combustible substances.
Polypropylene (PP) White to colourless plastic (without additives), similar to polyethylene but more rigid. High fatigue resistance, low density, good electrical properties, good resistance to chemicals and good mechanical properties. However, can be attacked by strong acids and bases, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons and methanol. Environmental Impact: The plastic is not classified as hazardous to health and is not believed to be hazardous to the environment. No special anti-pollution devices are needed during incineration.
Polystyrene (PS) Colourless, transparent, hard, and rigid plastic. Low shrinkage, low water absorption, good insulating properties. However, the plastic is brittle and sensitive to UV light, has poor resistance to chemicals and low resistance to oils and solvents. Environmental Impact: Not classified as hazardous to health. Bioavailability is not likely because of the plastic’s consistency and insolubility in water. Releases carbon dioxide and steam during incineration. Small quantities of biodegradable products are formed.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Colourless vinyl chloride polymer. The plastic is usually mixed with various additives such as softeners, fillers, and lubricants, as well as stabilizers, which is why it is available in a large number of qualities with diverse properties. In general, the plastic has good resistance to chemicals. However, it also has a low softening point. Environmental Impact: Not classified as hazardous to health and believed to be physiologically inert. However, hydrogen chloride is released during incineration.
