audience This manual is dedicated to English teachers who everyday work hard to build a better future for our Guatemala. In this manual, teachers can find strategies to apply in their multicultural classrooms to help students to learn about cultures, its importance and their proper behavior with cultural diversity.

Problem

Culture is the way how a group of human beings live.

Nowadays,

multicultural classrooms are a challenge for teachers. A teacher have to face with various cultures inside the class. This is why teachers must be ready to learn about it and apply it in a fun way to their children. But why is it importnat? Teachers have to find different activities in order to help students to learn the importance of learning cultures but also accept, respect, and know how to deal with individuality properly. What teachers have to do? This requires special techniques, a lot of practice, and variety of activities. Let´s learn more about it.

Strategies People is everywhere and each of them practice different culture.

That is

why teachers need to teach students how to cope with cultural differences.

Children have to learn about diversity, ethnics, different kinds of thinking and to respect each of them. Below there is a list of strategies that teachers can apply in their classrooms 1. Show and Tell is a versatile activity that allows students to express their opinions in a realistic situation. Teachers can apply role plays and culture, asking the students to talk about their family´s traditions.

2. Funny words: Teachers can say a word and each of the student can say how they call it. Teachers and students will listen and learn a variety of new vocabulary words.

3. Field Field: Take the students to different places of origin, on days when their country or culture is celebrating a holiday unique to them. Another activity is to assign a day or a week for each culture where students can learn everything about it.

4. Story time: Students can talk about what their names mean in their cultures and how they were chosen.

5. Culture dishes:

Students bring a special food from their culture.

Share the ingredients and the recipe.

6. Play Time: Students are going to prepare a story called “A trip aroud the world� where they are going to present and know different people of some countries. This play could be presented to the parents, they would love it but most important learn from different cultures.

7. Reading Time: Each of the students can bring a book from their country and explain about it. Give a summary of it and say what they learned from it. Also students can mention how did they know about the book.

8. Have a Scavenger Hunt: Students are going to search in their houses for an Ă­tem from their country and show them in the class.

9. School around the World:

Teachers show pictures about how

school looks like in different countries, students comment about their own.
