ASPLUND THE STORY
Founded in 1990 by brothers Michael and Thomas Asplund, ASPLUND began as a gallery exhibiting furniture as art objects in limited editions. Early collaborations with designers and artists soon positioned the gallery as a platform for contemporary art and design, laying the foundation for Edition ASPLUND, launched in 1995.
That same year, ASPLUND moved to its current location at Sibyllegatan 31 in Stockholm, where Creative Director Sandra Adrian Asplund joined the company. Today, ASPLUND is a multifaceted design house encompassing a furniture and carpet brand, B2B department, interior and design studio, webshop, and a curated multibrand store that also serves as a showroom.
Rooted in nature, craftsmanship, and tradition, ASPLUND’s design philosophy values natural materials that age beautifully over time. These principles have shaped a signature style that proves Swedish minimalism can be both warm and elegant. With a focus on creating enduring design classics, ASPLUND continues to contribute to contemporary Swedish design and is represented by retailers worldwide, with collections found in homes, hotels, and public spaces across the globe.

ABOUT OUR CARPETS
The ASPLUND Carpet Collection was born out of a dream to follow our concept and expand our existing collection with a high quality carpet range. A mix of international and Swedish traditions and, at the same time, using old techniques combined with modern patterns and design for a contemporary style.
We like our carpets to be stylish and durable enough to be passed on for generations and therefore only the finest materials and techniques are good enough. A high quality carpet is easier to maintain and will last through the different periods of life. Our carpets are woven, knotted or tufted by hand and by skilled craftsmen. Handcrafting makes each rug unique, like a piece of art. We use superior quality New Zealand wool as primary material. The wool is rich in natural fats that give the carpets a beautiful luster while also providing good protection against stains. We also combine our wool with Tencel in some of our designs, for a characteristic look and feel.
The first carpets we produced were unique pieces made together with Swedish artists and designers. Followed by a higher demand we developed several new carpet icons like the Crux, the Convex and the ”O”, just to mention a few. We collaborate with international as well as Swedish designers such as Marc Newson, Piero Lissoni, Tom Dixon, Thomas Sandell, Jonas Bohlin, Claesson Koivisto Rune and Broberg & Ridderstråle.
Our factory is based in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, where carpets of exceptional quality have been crafted for centuries. We value our collaborating partners, who deeply care about their workers and the quality they produce.

HAND KNOTTED RUGS
MAZE Hand Knotted Indo Nepal
The beauty and durability of a hand knotted rug is beyond compare. We offer 4 different qualities:
1. PERSIAN KNOT – PLATINUM 8/40 (75% New Zeeland wool, 25% Tencel™) – Our most exclusive hand knotted rugs. They are labeled with a platinum coloured leather label. These rugs have the most dense knotting, about 122 000 knots per m² and are highly suitable for applying a design or pattern. Pile height is approximately 13–15 mm.
2. TIBETHAN THIN – Made slightly thinner than the Tibetan Knot and with a shorter pile. It is made from either 100% New Zealand wool with a cut out pattern or a pattern in a Tencel™/wool blend. The blend gives the carpet a beautiful luster and shine. Comes in 70.000 knots or 92.000 knots depending on design.
3. SUMAK – An ancient knotted technique with a braided look and a raised pile pattern. 100% wool (New Zealand and fine Indian wool mix) is used
4. HANDLOOM - Handloom carpets are woven using a knit-like technique, where the yarn is finely worked on a warp in a more efficient way than traditional knotting.
They are available in 2 qualities:
Handloom — a thin carpet with a pile height of approximately 10 mm, where the dyed wool creates a naturally shaded look and a slightly firmer feel.
Handloom X — features a fuller, denser wool pile with a texture and feel similar to our tufted carpets. Available in monochrome and selected designs.
Both qualities are suitable for underfloor heating and frequent cleaning.
We can be flexible with sizes for most designs. Please refer to the end of this guide for our carpet specifications and resizing overview.

This rug is a hand knotted Platinum Persian Knot, one of our finest rugs. A hand knotted base in one-colour-wool with flower petals in a Tencel™-mix where some of them have an elevated pile to enhance the feeling of real flowers.
The Fleur rug was designed to give the classic flower pattern a modern take. Inspired by the floors of a flower shop, where a bunch of different flowers were thrown from a high ladder onto the floor, creating a realistic, one of a kind, beautiful pattern.

BIBLIOTEKET - HAND KNOTTED TIBETAN THIN

The Tibetan Thin knotted rug has the same type of kno t as the Tibetan rug, but slightly thinner with a shorter pile and a more delicate cut. They are very well suited for design pattern and colour mix.
Biblioteket is a finely hand knotted Tibetan Thin with a mix of 50% (New Zealand) wool and 50% Tencel™. Tencel™ is a natural fiber from fast growing forests and is 95% bio degradable.
The rug was originally designed by Emma Olbers in 2018 for the Old Library in the renowned Stockholm National Museum.

GEMS - HAND KNOTTED TIBETAN THIN

Tibetan Thin is made with a slightly larger Tibetan knot (7/16) and features a short, smooth pile of approximately 12 mm.
The Gems comes in different versions; either 100% wool (New Zealand and fine Indian wool mix) with a cut out pattern (Gems Relief) or with a pattern in a tencel-blend (Gems Multi and Gems Outlined). The blend gives the rugs a beautiful lustre and shine due to the mix of 75% Tencel™ and 25 % wool. Tencel is a natural fiber from fast growing forests and is 95% bio degradable.

Handloom is a woven and knotted carpet with a light and vivid feel. Our standard version is thin, pile height 8–10 mm, and dyed on natural yarn to create a refined, tactile linear weave.
Handloom X is a deluxe version of Handloom, using the same yarn quality and dye process as our tufted and knotted carpets. Designed for areas where carpets need to be washed more frequently or used on heated floors, this is an upgraded alternative to the tufted version. Pile height 13-15 mm. Look for the HL-X sign to identify designs available in this quality.

Handloom carpets do not have a backing, so we always recommend using an underlay. It helps protect both the carpet and the floor, while also providing an anti-slip surface.
An underlay can be ordered together with the carpet for a small additional cost and will be cut to the exact size of your rug.
Handloom carpets can generally be cleaned more easily and more frequently than tufted carpets. They are also slightly more stain-resistant due to their construction.
New for 2026 is our collection of handloom carpets made from undyed, all-natural wool yarn in three natural shades: Jute, Natural Brown, and Natural Grey. These yarns offer an even more stain-resistant and easy-to-maintain surface thanks to their natural coloration and the wool's inherent lanolin content, which helps repel dirt and stains naturally.

HAND TUFTED RUGS
MR DOTTIE Hand tufted
Hand tufted rugs should not be mixed up with machine-made tufted rugs. Hand tufting is a traditional method, which requires a high level of craftsmanship. Our rugs are entirely made by hand.
Our hand tufted rugs are available in different shapes and measures. We offer a broad selection of designs and patterns, with flexibility to accommodate orders in a variety of sizes.
We use 100% New Zealand wool as the primary yarn for our tufted rugs. Naturally rich in wool fats, it gives the pile a beautiful lustre while providing excellent resistance to stains. In selected designs, we blend the wool with TENCEL™, a natural fibre sourced from fast-growing forests and up to 95% biodegradable.
The pile height of our tufted wool carpets is approximately 1.3–1.5 cm, featuring a smooth, cut surface. For the Wool/ Silk quality, the pile height is approximately 1.6–1.8 cm, with a slightly more textured, roughly cut surface.
Selected hand-tufted designs are also available in Handloom X quality, at a slightly higher price per square metre, they will have the note *HL-X.

PLEASE OBSERVE:
Where it says “%”, the carpet has to be proportionally enlarged/decreased.
Do not forget to take the pattern repeat into consideration. On some carpets, a repeat size is specified. The size can then be altered by adding these measurements repeatedly. Please find this information in the Carpet Specifications and Resizing Overview at the back of this guide.
BESPOKE:

They really make a homey rug - like an island - in those difficult spaces.

WEDGE - HAND TUFTED RUG – Fixed colour and material

The Wedge rugs are made of either 100% Tencel™, 100% wool or woolsilk. They are available in two colours set schemes: Neutrals or Blues. Please note that Tencel™ without the support of wool will lie down and appear paler after sometime of usage. The colours do not fade even if it may have the illusion of such. A mix of 50% wool and 50% Tencel™ will balance the pile and make it stay in shape.
Geometric patterns have been a recurring item throughout Marie-Louise Hellgrens designs. Wedge is no exception, however, there is a subtle twist to the patterns. If you take a closer look you may find small spontaneous variations to the hand-sketched geometric designs. For Marie-Louise it is always important that her work includes subtle energy that, at a first glance may look symmetric, but then surprises you with something new every time you look.
Please note that we also have a customization version of Wedge; Wedge 2, which you can find on the standard tufted rugs.

The inspiration of the Aurora rug was the designer Gabriel Tan´s fascination of the Northern lights. For him the aurora is like the holy grail, despite a few trips to the far north it always escaped him. The designer experimented with different colour variants of the aurora such as purple and bright green, but decided on a more classic and warmer palette more suited to the home.
The Aurora rug is made of a wool and tencel blend and looks just as good on the floor as on the wall.

HORIZON FIELD Hand tufted rug
Our handwoven carpets are crafted by skilled artisans on traditional flat looms in small villages along the Ganges River in India. Their distinct expressions are defined by variations in wool quality, weaving techniques, and patterns that are either woven into or stitched onto the surface.
Kelim carpets are woven with a wool warp, resulting in a rich, dense base with a subtle sheen. They are produced using traditional techniques of Anatolian origin, giving them a warm and tactile character.
Dhurrie carpets are also made using traditional nomadic methods, but feature a cotton warp instead of wool. This creates a flatter, slightly firmer structure with a more restrained, graphic feel.

ASPLUND – CARPET CARE/MAINTENANCE
In general, the life length of a carpet is mainly based on 2 things:
1. The technique and yarn quality. 2. How you take care of it.
A high quality carpet regardless of technique and quality, shall be maintained with stain removal, whipping and vacuuming regularly.
WOOL – KNOTTED AND TUFTED RUGS, WOVEN CARPETS
Wool fibres will come of the first months, speed up the process by vacuuming it regularly. Use brush out only once or twice, then without brush to preserve the pile.
Instant stain removal – use a damp lukewarm natural cloth with a tiny bit of wooden soap water, preferably the yellow kind to avoid bleed. Dab the stain until the stain is gone. If you need more water, do use a towel under the rug/carpet to make sure that it does not go through to the floor. Rinse the cloth and finish off with a clean damp cloth. Blow dry the wet spot with a hairdryer (medium heat,minimum 30 cm away from the pile).
For oil stains we recommend you to use - Cornstarch, baking soda or talcum to absorb the oil for 15 minutes. Vacuum the powder off. Blot with a damp soap water cloth to rinse the oil and powder further. Finish with a damp clean cloth. Be sure to never rub on an oil stain since it will just push the oil further into the yarn fibers.
SILK AND TENCEL – KNOTTED AND TUFTED RUGS

Stains on silk or Tencel rugs should preferably not be removed with too much water. Try a slightly lukewarm damp cloth on a small part of the rug/carpet to be sure of the result. For severe stains; Pour some baking soda on the stain, let stay 30–60 minutes, then vaccum over it. For odor removal spray lightly with a mix of water and clear vinegar. Wipe/dab off carefully after a couple of minutes. Never use hot water on silk or tencel, it will destroy the fibres.
CARPET CLEANING
Do not wait too long to take your rug/carpet to the dry cleaners if needed. If you have ingrown stains they will be difficult to remove. Always wash at a professional carpet cleaner. A good cleaner knows which rug/carpet would be water washed or dry cleaned, flat cleaned or cleaned hanging. Make sure that the label always stays on for the cleaner to have the yarn and manufacturing quality.
Avoid to bring your rug/carpet to the cleaner too often though. Instead, take good care of it so you do not have to. A hand tufted rug/carpet may for example risk having the backcloth damaged if washed too often.
An old northern tip is to put your rug/carpet upside down in the snow during winter. This is really good for the carpets in general but shall not be made on the ones with strongly contrasting colours. And please note, tufted rugs shall only be turned and whipped in the snow shortly, otherwise if really cold outside it may break the backing cloth and glue.

• Rotate your rug/carpet once in a while so it will be worn evenly and to avoid direct sunlight shadings.
• We provide general carpet care advice, always check the separate carpet or advice a professional carpet cleaner.
