The form of this Interlocking wooden joint was based on the verb “to decussate.” While the joint’s cohesive form retained its simplicity, the interlocking system grew in complexity with each process model. 4

tranSparency (model) architectural design five, 2015

This model represents a sculptural interpretation of “Literal vs. Figurative Transparency.” My intention was to use mirrored surfaces to create the illusion of transparency and an ambiguity between surface and void. The introduction and interaction of light with the model adds another dimension of “texture” to the model - something I had not anticipated but was delighted to discover in the process.

The project’s site is located in downtown Austin, on the corner of 5th and Colorado. This communal building is set back from the curb to allow for an informal bookmarket space, while housing an openplan performance space and lounge area within, where people can read, sip coffee and listen to the sounds of ambient or acoustic music coming from the stage.

so uthe r ly wind Located east of the Congress Bridge in Downtown Austin. My driving concept with this design was to articulate the private vs. public apsects of the different spaces that were programmed into the Bat information center function/prompt. I highlighted the private nature of the bathrooms, storage space, and reading corner by using a thick and heavy enclosure. Conversely, I developed the public areas (the majority of spaces) by creating an open, free-flowing and transparent collection of spaces. This provides a relaxed and casual space that is filled with natural light and gives great views to the Town Lake and green space to the north. The eastfacing corner houses a lecture space, which is left open to the rest of the building, but the transition between these areas is indicated by a subtle change in direction of grain in the floor boards.

bat obServation platform architectural design two, 2014 Located east of Congress Bridge (Downtown Austin), reaching from the shore onto LadyBird Lake, this platform allows the public to get a closer view of the Mexican Free-tailed bat, the species that yearly inhabits Congress bridge. The form and movement of this design references the nightly flight path of the bat - as it drops down from its perch beneath the bridge and then flies up and out into the Austin sky, on the hunt for insect prey. The form of the main enclosure (the white mass) was developed from a series of modules. These modules were created through a process of abstracting of the pelvic joint (skeletal anatomy) of the Free-tailed bat. m useum boaarrdd ++ bbass asswwood ood m mode odell at at 11//44”:1 ”:1’’ mu se um bo

The LAN, a live-work/coworking complex for graphic artists, musicians and computer programmers, is “located” in east Austin, across the street from Plaza Saltillo railroad station. With this project I hoped to create an incubation space where different creative disciplines could work together to create new media and technology. The building houses open-plan co-working offices, shared studio space, meeting rooms, and an exterior courtyard/patio on the ground floor. Artists’ lofts make up the second level.

ice cryStal morphology architectural design three, 2014

This diagram aims to graphically represent the natural phenomenon of snowflake (ice crystal) formation as abstracted forms. The four resulting shapes are a visual result of data within the graphical system (plotted points), rather than depictions of actual ice crystals. Two of the final shapes represent crystals that are “likely’ to form naturally, and while the other two represent forms that are quite implausible. The six points of each large hexagon represent one of the six categories listed (from top to bottom) on the left side. Each category contains three formal variables (listed from left to right) that exist within the category, and those correspond to the three dots on each line that extends from the center of the hexagon diagram.

and analySiS Q u a n t i t a t i v e M a p architectural design four, 2015

As part of a studio project, my urban planning work targetting the Plaza Saltillo TOD (East Austin) began with a thorough analysis of the site and its surrounding neighborhoods. My research was focused on the nature of the green spaces in the area. With my team, I spent time visiting the parks in the area and documenting my experiences (taking into account shading, amenity upkeep, ambient sounds, etc) in addition to gathering information online, and developed two visual analysis’ through mapping. This map measures concrete data to convey a quantitative overview of the nature of the green spaces that are accessible to the Plaza TOD’s residents.

This map measures visitor experience at three selected parks to convey a qualitative overview of the nature of the green spaces that are accessible to the Plaza TOD’s residents. The waves in the line represent the spaciousness and positive qualities of the amenities. The taller the hump (vertical axis), the more positive the experience. The wider the hump (horizontally), the more spacious the amentity feels. The absence of a hump indicates a lack of an amenity at the respective park.
