Collab with Nana Bio and Latbio

It all started in 2015, when the company was founded by two people on a mission: Ronald van Marlen and Juergen Stolzer. They started the journey to create an open, honest and organic fruit business company, respecting people and the planet. The mission went well: after 5 years NaNa Bio has a team of 11 people, grows and processes 6,000 MT organic fruit and serves 50+ partners from all over the world.

NaNa Bio is specialized in B2B organic and biodynamic IQF frozen fruits, purees and juices.

The Asociación de Mujeres Agro-Artesanales is a female empowering project that uses residual streams from LatBio and converts them into sustainable products. They want to establish the artisanal identity of their province, El Oro, while improving income for local women. And just like Nana Bio, both LatBio and AMA are committed to encourage care for the planet and build a more sustainable world.

LAtbio & the Asociación de Mujeres Agro-Artesanales

Meet Latbio: an Ecuadorian company of farmers that grow bananas in an organic, biodynamic and regenerative way. We’re proud to have them as a partner, as they produce our organic biodynamic DEMETER banana puree. Not long ago, co-founder Ronald van Marlen received a beautiful woven hat from LatBio. This wasn’t just any hat - but one with a story. After learning about the people from the Asociación de Mujeres Agro-Artesanales (AMA) who made it, Ronald decided to contact them for a collaboration.

Thanks to the ideal climate and fertile soil, Ecuador is the world’s biggest exporter of bananas. Once a banana bunch is harvested, the main trunk is cut down to make room for one of the side shoots. The artisans of LatBio and turn them into banana fiber. They then braid these fiber strips into beautiful & sustainable products such as hats, wallets, handbags, souvenirs and articles for home decor.

To make their hats, the artisans use waste from LatBio’s banana farmers. As soon as the bananas are harvested, the main trunk is cut down to create room for a new side shoot. This side shoot will grow into a new trunk with fruit. The old trunk is cut and stripped with a special knife to harvest three different types of stringy fibers. These fiber strips are then left to dry before braiding them. The women of Asomujeres Artesanales use a range of braiding techniques to create products such as this durable and colorful hat.
