Magazine vs. Zine vs. Digital zine Magazines •print or digital periodical publication featuring a collection of content •often with specific focus (fashion, food magazines on food, etc. ) Zine •often self-published or published by a small collective / DIYinspired look •often target a more specific audience than mainstream magazines •Main goal of zines often expression and creation

Collage Zine Design – The classic • Combining different visual elements to create collages (by hand with scissors and adhesives or digitally (with Photoshop and similar photo apps) • Viewers are guided through said zines with eye-popping imagery and busy visuals

Journal/Sketchbook Zine Design • Some zine makers choose to turn their journals or sketchbooks into a zine • digital format (involves scanning in pages that are hand-drawn and handwritten and compiling them

Minimalist Zine Design • Some zines are quite minimal in their design, featuring only a limited color palette and one major design element per page

Photo Zine Design • Photo zines are great for sharing from a specific photo series

Comic Zine Design • comic book style zines that tells a story, or a bunch of little stories

Freestyle Zine Design • a combination of styles all put together to make one zine • Suitable for the creators who don’t want to stick to just one style for their zine, or collaborative groups with multiple styles coming together to create a zine

Tools to create a Zine •PDF-Magazine which can be published on a platform (issuu; …); website (IAAW,?) •Canva / Photoshop-> creation, editing of zines •Google slides/ google drawing •Flipsnack / Fliphtml5.com -> transformation into Flipbook magazines •Website with blog entries (via Wix, wordpress, Canva,…)
