Welcome

m us i n g s o f a bride to be

W

hat’s the point of weddings anyway? It’s a question that has reared it’s

scary head lately as the stresses of my wedding-planning have

gotten particularly fraught. Tradition aside, why all the bells

and whistles? As one of

our Real Brides this issue put it “What’s important is being married not

getting married.”

The answer for me, I’ve realised, is that it’s an event to commemorate the union of two people

who have decided that out

of all the people in the whole wide world, they’ve chosen one

another and want to spend the rest of their lives

loving eachother. That’s special.

Why not have a party to celebrate it? And to this party we invite those people that mean the most to us. People we love, people who love us and people who find

joy and pride in

Hair & Makeup by Lubna Rafiq & Uzma Rafiq, supported by Azbah Ali

seeing us happy. It’s more than a dinner party, or a milestone birthday party, this is all the people we

cherish most together in one room, celebrating our love

and

wishing us their best for a perfect future. How wonderful? So, I say bring

on the bells and the whistles! With our nearest and dearest travelling across

the world to indulge us in a

single moment in history that is all about the

two of us, let’s make it a day to remember. From the most stunning venue to welcome them, a delicious feast to

treat our taste buds, flowers and decor to pretty it all, entertainment for

all to have fun in our honour, photographers to immortalise

it all forever, and of

course spectacular fashion and makeup that make you feel like a movie star and make him

fall for you all over again. Superficial and frivolous? Maybe. Trivial? Never, because it all stands for something

so much more.

I can’t wait for my wedding because I can’t wait for the people I value most to come together to give me their blessing on the day I marry the man

I adore with all my heart and we

embark upon the rest of our lives

together.

PS By the time I write to you next, the big day will have happened, and I can tell you all about it!

stress, this could be the perfect solution.

What’s our theme? When planning a wedding by yourselves, this is the one area where it’s easy to be vague. In fact, when we asked our brides their favourite theme in an Asian Bride poll last year, the top answer was ‘pretty’, which is more a given than a theme in itself. It’s important to establish a theme for your celebrations, chiefly to avoid the risk of clashing instead of fusing, so you’re not left with a mishmash of mismatched services. There are many types of themes to choose from, both adventurous and classic; from Bollywood, medieval, Indian Ocean, carnival, masquerade, zen, tropical, Moroccan, Rajasthani, oriental, summer gardens, fiesta or beach to the traditional Cinderella or Madhubala weddings, all with their own colour scheme (subtle and understated to bold and grandiose), but most Asian brides settle for one of the following three broad themes: traditional (colourful and flamboyant), western (chic, elegant and fairytale) and fusion (a marriage of east and west). The trick is to find one and stick to it, matching everything from your outfits and centrepieces to the smaller details such as napkin holders and favour boxes. Agree on a set of colours and styles that reflect your theme best. When the two of you find something you like the look of, don’t hire or buy it unless you’re convinced it complements your chosen theme to perfection.

The vow factor THE CIVIL WEDDING A registrar takes care of the civil proceedings, either in a registry office or any place that has been given a wedding licence. Some registrars allow you to write your own vows or perform your own readings. THE RELIGIOUS CEREMONY Ceremonies differ depending on faith and can be conducted in your place of worship or at your wedding venue if permitted. For details of religious ceremonies you should contact the local minster of your faith, as they will differ in procedural requirements. THE MIXED FAITH WEDDING While a fusion reception is considered cutting edge because of its cultural mix, a mixed religious ceremony isn’t easy. You’ll need to seek advice from representatives of both faiths for their position on this matter. Many, though, will still not marry couples of different religions and if this is the case you might have to consider a civil ceremony. THE WEDDING ABROAD Most tour operators have plenty of places around the world offering wedding packages and will talk you through the differing customs, requirements and paperwork. You could travel to your wedding in Cinderella’s coach in Disney Orlando with Mickey and Minnie as guests, in the Ice Chapel (where every decoration is carved from ice) in Sweden, or by the beach in the Maldives. But elder relatives may not be comfortable travelling abroad, or not all your friends will be able to afford it, so check with key guests before you set your heart on a wedding across the seas.

of how well they manage an occasion.

The sweetest thing While nothing sweet will ever replace the traditional rasmalai and rasgulla at Asian weddings, the wedding cake has been making a profound mark in our ceremonies as a striking centrepiece. Plus the cake cutting ceremony tends to be one of the highlights during the photo call. Cake makers can take all of your guests religious

and dietary requirements into consideration (for instance egg or gluten free), and can create them to match your décor to perfection. From traditional tiers to cupcake mountains, they are as much a feast for the eyes as they are to the taste buds. And for true sweet hearts, nothing says love like a chocolate fountain.

Top tipple tips The days of serving alcohol at an Asian soiree are no longer a no-no. As is the habit of plonking a bottle of Bacardi and a bottle of coke on every table. Fine wines, high quality champagne and premium spirits all work towards marking your occasion as one of distinction. What separates the trendy from the tacky is increasingly being measured by the quality of your drinks menu. The welcome drinks should be champagne or sparkling wine, and offered up in a flute. Even nonalcoholic beverages should be an exciting blend of flavours rather than the high-street fizz, and should be served in elegant glass. Banish all plastic! The wine should come in white, red and rose, and complement the cuisine, preferably served by a waiter. But that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank to quench your guests’ thirst. Other than the beverages you serve at arrival and during the meal and toasts, there’s nothing in the rulebook that says your guests can’t drink their fill at their own expense at your venue’s bar.

Make sure the company you are dealing with owns the vehicles and read all contracts down to the fine print. Such as whether the gratuity for the driver is already added, or whether it has to be paid for separately. Is the horse from a stable in the vicinity or will it have to be transported from a great distance, thus incurring higher fees? Before booking, also think about comfort. Ask whether they come with full amenities such as drinks or whether you will have to provide your own. Other than ensuring that the look and performance of your transportation are of a high quality, you also need to ensure the chauffeur is immaculately dressed, professional and courteous and above all, gets you to the altar on time!

And even if it turns out there’s nothing left on the list that someone can afford, at least he or she will have a clear idea of the kind of thing you’re after. And you can always add the line ‘feel free to make a small donation to our honeymoon instead.’

Just the two of us

It’s surprising how many couples don’t put as much thought into their honeymoon as they do their wedding. To put things into perspective: the wedding is one day where it’s all about your guests celebrating your union, while the honeymoon is two weeks where it’s about the two of you celebrating that very union. There’s no two ways about it – make it one to remember. A honeymoon is very different from a normal holiday. Avoid budget or group packages – you will save money with those but at the cost of denying yourselves a setting filled with romance. Don’t leave anything to chance – only select reputable tour operators. Think of what you’re after before you book. Do you want a relaxing affair sunning on a beach and indulging in spa treatments, or are you after something much more adventurous involving water sports, hiking or sightseeing? Research every destination that takes your fancy thoroughly to decide what to see, do and where to stay. Don’t leave it to the last minute – especially seeing as visas can take a long time to be granted. Save a little of your budget to buy new clothes and accessories – especially for the bedroom! And remember, everyone loves honeymooners. The more in love you appear, the higher the chances of flight and suite upgrades!

Advice

INDUSTRY EXPERT Raj Rana

Raj Rana is the Managing Director at Itihaas, the award winning restaurant and catering service. 18 Fleet Street, Birmingham B3 1JL 0121 212 3383 itihaas.co.uk

ANSWERS YOUR BIG DAY DILEMMAS

Wow factor

unplugged wedding

We want to go for something a bit different with our food that will wow our guests, but also don’t want it to be too expensive, what would you suggest? I would suggest something simple with a great presentation. Itihaas are able to do a number of canapés including bite size Sev Paapri Chaat, Mysor Dosa and Chilli Paneer. These can be presented in unique ways at no additional cost. At Itihaas we don’t charge per dish as we have allowances and you can choose any dish within that allowance. This gives our clients the opportunity to explore our cuisine and try something different.

Our wedding is going to be a very private affair, we are going to have a photographer and videographer on the day but do not want our guests to take any photos. How do we ask this without sounding rude and controlling? You can have cards/menus on each place setting requesting your guests not to take photos. We do live in the age Social Media, so you may find this difficult. If your event is all close friends and family, then there should be no problems.

is wedding insurance really essential? wedding insurance is a way of protecting yourselves from things that can go wrong. The Asian community spend a lot of money within the industry so it is

understandable that people would want to protect themselves. i would suggest that you get wedding insurance if you’re planning on having a big-budget wedding.

My fiance and I are vegetarians and really want a fully vegetarian menu. How can we create an exciting menu for our meat-eating guests? The trick is to create a diverse menu. We have a wide variety of vegetarian dishes as well as a diverse team of chefs who are able to create mouth watering cuisines. There are a number of options that you can choose from including Indo-Chinese dishes as well as traditional dishes that will entertain your guests.

The other side My son is getting married and while his fiancé’s parents have insisted they are happy to pay for the wedding my husband and I would like to contribute. What things should the parents of the groom pay for? Payment of weddings has always been a grey area between in-laws. The best solution would be to sit down and discuss payments. It has always been ‘norm’ for the groom’s side to pay for the reception entertainment such as the DJ or live singer(s) and the carriages.

Describe how you felt as you made your entrance: As we walked down the grand staircase, I was shooting quick glances across the room at details that I had spent months planning. Everything was perfectly in order and the centrepieces were exactly what I had wanted. Memorable moment? I loved the fact that my mother joined my father in his speech, which isn’t the norm as it’s usually the father of the bride. Their synchronisation was brilliant as they both spoke of what having a daughter meant to them. But my most memorable moment has to be when Kishan and I saw each other for the first time after the holy cloth ‘antrapat’ that was separating us was lifted and when my parents placed my hand in Kishan’s hand on the mandap.

The centrepieces were one of my favourite touches, we had crystal candelabras topped with a beautiful bunch of white roses that stood perfectly on a gold plate covered with crystal gems. Describe how you felt as you entered: I couldn’t describe it as anything less than surreal. It was a moment in my life that I had waited for and walking into the venue was the perfect blend of dreams and reality. It was a little over-whelming but the intimate crowd made it all the more special, I realised at that point that going for a smaller wedding was the best possible choice. It was a very emotional experience. Your most memorable moment? I’ll never forget seeing Imi after the Nikkah, it was such a unique moment and really felt to me like our lives were just beginning. Should we go for buffet or table service? the need to queue up with plates waiting in a buffet line is certainly not favourable, especially when your guests will be wearing their best outfits. It is always difficult and precarious, especially for children and the elderly, to then have to traverse the route back to their seats holding plates of hot food. it is also very time consuming and takes precious time away from your event. The buffet stations also take up a lot of space, and can take away from the whole look of the room. Guests are much more comfortable when food is brought to the tables, this makes for a pleasant dining experience. being served to the tables by warm, friendly staff that can see to all the dining requirements, means you can be sure your guests are looked after from the start of your event to the finish. Your event will be far more organised and each element will flow seamlessly.

What’s the most costeffective but hospitable way to provide alcohol? free bar is still the most hospitable and popular option, this is where a caterer will arrange the bar staff and the glasses for a client and then the client can bring in their own alcohol and the bar team will service it for you. however if budget is tight, you could consider providing wine to the tables Photography by Barry Jeffery

ZANA MORRIS’ NEW DIET RULES One: Remember, there’s no need to have carbs every day with every meal. Get the carbs down to two to three days a week. Two: Don’t ban anything out of your diet because the minute you do, you’ll want it. But do keep the carbs down and get some fat and protein in with every meal. Three: We don’t need to eat 3-5 times a day. A lot of us are conditioned as well to think that we are hungry at particular times but the truth is if you get that little bit of fat and protein in with every meal you really won’t need to eat so often.

I would recommend juicing for a month in the lead-up to your big day, which helps achieve beautiful, glowing skin and more energy. A fast detox (one week) however can lead you feeling exhausted. Why juice? It’s a great way of getting lots of vegetables into your diet very quickly. In liquid form, these veggies and fruits are easily digestible which leads to no irritation in the gut. Which juice diet is right? I would say it depends what you are needing the juice for. I have developed the ‘4pm Pick Me Up’ containing ginger and spinach to give you that energy boost after lunch. My Hotel Bloomsbury

London It’s not easy to create a truly relaxing environment in the middle of bustling London but My Hotel manages it effortlessly. The answer lies in two words: feng shui. Inkeeping with My Hotel Bloomsbury’s East meets West merge of cultural style, use of feng shui arranges space so that ‘chi’ or energy flows harmoniously to create balance. And this goal is certainly met here, even the girl on reception had a calming air about her, with a ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude to boot. The dedicated spa room, Jinja, offers a range of treatments including massage, facials and beauty essentials like waxing, manicure and pedicure. Express massages start from £15 for 15 minutes, going up to an hour-and-a-half for £80, good value in London. Rooms are comfortable, striking a balance between simple luxury and functional chic. Behind the bedroom door, it’s easy to forget the hotel is nestled behind one of London’s busiest districts. It’s the perfect base for shopping, siteseeing, a visit to the theatre, not to mention a plethora of restaurants from every cuisine imaginable, and all within walking distance. In-house restaurant Gail’s Kitchen’s breakfast, lunch and dinner will cater for your every hungry need and comes recommended in the Michelin Guide 2015. myhotels.com/my-hotel-Bloomsbury

Brighton Brighton Seafront boasts one of the UK’s most recognisable strips of hotels and one of its grand dames is set to be made grander still, the Hilton Brighton Metropole. The newly opened Salt Room features a covered terrace with uninterrupted sea views focusing on British fish and crustacean specialities cooked in a charcoal oven, alongside a number of grill favourites. Also new is the gorgeous spa, Schmoo by the Sea. Its relaxed, yet sociable feel means it’s great for couples or for brides and their friends looking for little pre-wedding pampering. The spa includes six treatment rooms, a manicure and pedicure zone, a relaxation zone, a welcoming reception and shop area, where guests can purchase their own organic Schmoo skincare products, developed from high quality ingredients based around fruit extracts. hilton.com/brighton

oUt oF the CitY Luton Hoo Luton

Hard to believe that Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh spent part of their honeymoon here almost 70 years ago, but Luton Hoo looks just as luxurious today. This is imposing grandeur at its very best with a wonderful mansion house at the heart of it. Surprisingly, the atmosphere, while certainly refined, remains relaxed and very welcoming. The pillared halls, elegant lounges, individual period rooms, formal gardens designed by Capability Brown, and the awardwinning Wenher Restaurant show just how gracious country living used to be. The Country Club is set within a Grade II listed court

yard, previously the stables of the mansion house. Today it houses a world of ultimate relaxation including a spa and indoor pool, as well as Adam’s Brasserie and Bar. And for golf-lovers there is also a championship course. Enjoy a pleasant walk around these beautiful grounds or jump in one of a fleet of London taxis owned by the hotel, complete with personalised number plates. Excellent transport links between St. Pancras and Luton Parkway railway stations mean we are as easily reached from London as we are from nearby Cambridge. And Luton Airport puts us in touch with cities from all over Europe. lutonhoo.co.uk

Kia Abdullah discovers Vanuatu, the Pacific’s ultimate undiscovered honeymoon destination

U

nless you’re a geographer, chances are you’ll have trouble locating Vanuatu on a map. Over 1,000 miles east of Australia, this archipelago of 83 islands is such a well-kept secret, most couples don’t even consider it when planning their big trip. True, it’s not a slick honeymoon mill like the Seychelles or Mauritius but that only adds to its roughhewn charm. Its capital, Port Vila on the main island of Efate, is a motley mix of buildings stitched together by dusty streets and searing heat. We spent a day exploring the town before settling at Nasama Resort (nasamaresort.com) in nearby Pango. Far from the hustle of city life, Nasama is a calm haven for honeymooning couples. With immaculate grounds and its very own over-the-water wedding chapel, it also offers a unique option for destination weddings. We stayed in one of its Luxury 1-bedroom Oceanfront apartments, offering expansive views across the Pacific Ocean.

246 | ASIAN BRIDE

With a private kitchen, inclusive wifi, massive TV, DVD player and spacious balcony, you’d be forgiven for spending your entire stay in your room. Of course, there’s plenty on the island to tempt you outside. We were most impressed with Mele Cascades, an imposing waterfall 20 minutes from the town centre. To reach the peak, you have to cross a small river several times with the help of rigged ropes, so make sure you leave the Louboutins at home. Once at the top, you can dive into a freshwater pool at the base of the waterfall – a Kodak moment if ever there was one. Behind the waterfall lies a tiny cave, which we discovered by accident: worth a look if you can brave the falls. With its enviable position in the Pacific, Vanuatu offers excellent diving and snorkelling. If you have the time, I’d recommend spending three days doing your PADI Open Water Diver course (nautilus.com. vu). If you’re short on time, however, opt for a fun dive to explore the colourful reef and vibrant sea life.

“As wITh mosT secreTs, VAnuATu wIll one dAy be dIscoVered by The mAsses, cATApulTed from world clAss To world sTAge. go now”

We wrapped up our stay on Efate with a casual dinner at Pango’s Beachhouse Café and Bar, sampling a range of tasty dishes at reasonable prices. With its friendly staff and laidback vibe, The Beachhouse offers feet-in-the-sand dining at its best. It also caters for weddings, so worth a look if you want hassle-free planning. The restaurant has a close affiliation with Surfside Vanuatu next door (surfsidevanuatu.com) as well as Nasama, so you can book all the rooms you need and organise the catering, venue and logistics through a single contact (sales@beachhouse. vu), leaving you to worry about the more important things – like the dress! After Efate, we headed to the tiny island of Aore off Vanuatu’s second main island of Espiritu Santo. Run by the materteral Anne, Aore Island Resort (aoreresort.com) offers a slice of real Ni-van culture. Everything from the furniture to the food is sourced in Vanuatu, meaning you can enjoy an authentic Ni-van experience without compromising on luxury. Staff are warm and accommodating and the clientele is genuinely interesting with its mix of honeymooners, old-timers, yachties and divers. Again, you have the choice to spend a week lazing on the beach or trying something a bit more active. I recommend the Millennium Cave

Tour run by Wrecks to Rainforest (wreckstorainforest.com), a full day of hiking, caving and canyoning, topped up by a surreal journey downriver (just lie back and let the current carry you). Aore also offers free use of its kayaks. We borrowed a two-seater and kayaked up the shore for a relaxing afternoon of swimming and snorkelling before wrapping up our stay with another spot of diving. If you took the time to get your PADI license, don’t miss the SS Coolidge, one of the best wreck dives in the world. As I packed for my departure I realised that, as with most secrets, Vanuatu would one day be discovered by the masses, catapulted from world class to world stage. My advice? Go now. Go while it’s unspoiled and undiscovered. Go while it’s remote and secluded and hard to find on a map. Book your tickets and go.

on Tanna Island If you and your beau are the adventurous type, don’t miss Tanna Island’s Mount Yasur, one of the most accessible volcanoes in the world. Yasur erupts several times an hour, guaranteeing fireworks for almost everyone. Our visit started just before twilight with a 10-minute trek to its peak. It wasn’t long before we heard a stomach-churning roar followed by red hot lava shot metres into the air above. A gasp of awe was quickly followed by a step away from the volcano’s edge. It’s worth noting that Tanna is one of the more undeveloped of Vanuatu’s main islands so you’ll have to trade honeymoon-luxe for back to basics, but Yasur is well worth the downgrade. We stayed at Port Resolution Yacht Club (portresolution.com), a set of traditional bungalows on the east side of Tanna Island. Manager Werry Narua encourages guests to live like the locals who reside in bamboo huts with thatched roofs and limited electricity. They grow or catch their own food, wash their clothes and dishes by hand, and live a simple life unmarred by the trappings of materialism. Paloma Lacy visits Soma Bay, a perfect slice of honeymoon heaven in Egypt

T

here is no sweeter feeling than chilling in the sunshine knowing that temperatures back home in the UK are almost reaching freezing, which is precisely what happened when I arrived at Hurghada Airport earlier this year on my way to the Red Sea resort of Soma Bay. But it also presented itself as a reminder of how perfect Egypt is as a year-round honeymoon destination. Every couple hopes for a sun-drenched honeymoon, which is just one of the reasons for the popularity of the Red Sea resorts in particular, in recent years. With temperatures hitting the mid-80s celsius even in February and March, arriving home sun-kissed is assured at any time of year. The forty-minute drive from Hurghada turned into a 25-minute dart in the hands of our trusty driver who shot down the empty motorway to our first hotel stop of the week – the Kempinski Hotel. Beautiful Soma Bay is a collective of five luxury hotels including La Residences des Cascades, Sheraton Soma Bay Resort, The Breakers Diving and Surfing Lodge and Robinson Club, and of course the Kempinski. The Soma Bay hotels work together to create the ultimate peninsula experience, offering a variety of activities, which naturally centre around water sports in the crystal clear Red Sea, including scuba diving, snorkelling, wind surfing, sailing and kite surfing. The house reef’s jetty leads right out to un-crowded dive sites that include coral gardens, walls, drop-offs and wrecks suitable for all

levels of dive and snorkel experience. The Soma Bay Dive Centre and Kite House are well-equipped with topof-the-line gear and accessories and novices are welcome to enrol for lessons in any one of the number of water sports. Soma Bay’s Kite House is perfectly located combining natural beauty with the best kite conditions on the sea, offering a free introductory lesson every morning and a complimentary shuttle bus runs regularly between The Breakers Diving and Surfing Lodge. Actually, all hotels are connected by a complimentary shuttle bus which runs from 9am to midnight. Within five minutes, the shuttle will transfer guests to and from any hotel in Soma Bay giving effortless access to all the restaurants, events, and entertainment Soma Bay has to offer. There is absolutely no chance boredom will set in here. Best of all, guests staying at any one of the hotels can charge meals, drinks, spa treatments, a round of golf and even purchases from resort shops to their hotel room. Soma Bay is home to a range of restaurants serving dishes from every corner of the globe and under the Dine Around scheme guests can transfer their meal plan from their respective hotel to any restaurant within the resort. It is clear to see the majestic Kempinski was inspired by an ancient Moorish fortress. This awe inspiring resort is located on an immaculate 400-metre sandy beach and boasts 325 luxurious and elegantly-appointed

rooms and suites, mixing contemporary décor and European flair with warm Egyptian hospitality. I stayed in the Laguna Club, which is a hotel within a hotel, comprising 50 luxurious rooms and five deluxe suites just made for a honeymoon. Those familiar with the Kempinski brand will recognise the grandeur with which they execute interior design, lots of chandeliers, swathes of fabric on curtains and sofas that look as if they’re covered in the most expensive raw silk, and deep enough to fall asleep in. And that’s the lounge areas. There is no internet in the bedrooms so I spent a fair amount of time at reception, suffice to say I was glad of such creature comforts. Bedrooms follow a similarly chic touch in their design orientation, if only my home bedroom were like this! There are five restaurants and bars from casual to elegant settings with inspired dishes all with breathtaking views of the Red Sea. While there wasn’t enough time to try them all, the main restaurant, The View, with its large outdoor seating area and terrace with fantastic sea views, serves international cuisine. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with theme nights most evenings. Al Mar Restaurant & Bar enables guests to dine by the main pool,

serving international lunch dishes, while Bamboo, an elegant pan-Asian restaurant is open in the evening only. Sultan Lobby Lounge Bar – relaxing atmosphere offering refreshments and live entertainment – and Beachcomber Bar – is great for freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, cocktails, beers and light snacks, delivered right to your sun bed. For those who fancy a little alone time can treat themselves to a private dining experience on the terrace of the presidential suite. I was lucky enough to try the five course seafood gourmet dinner, and there was so much food, I could barely eat anything the next day! Three days into my stay, I moved to The Cascades Thalasso & Spa for some much-needed treatments designed to invigorate both body and mind. A member of the exclusive group of Leading Spas of the World, it offers a wide array of therapies in 65 luxurious treatment cabins, including massages, hydro-therapy, body and facial treatments, specialised mechanical beauty treatments and salon services. Thalassotherapy is a concept based on the restorative properties of seawater and seaweed rich in vitamins and minerals ideal for anti-aging, improved blood circulation and cellulite reduction. The spa is home to the largest Thalasso-

Tonic Pool in the world divided into a number of distinct zones of water jets, currents, showers and bubbling baths expertly designed to regenerate and tone specific parts of the body. Grooms who aren’t as keen on the spa as their brides can while away an afternoon on the Gary Player Championship Course. The 18-hole, par 72 golf course is beautifully designed, with stunning views of the Red Sea. Colonial-style with 250 spacious rooms and luxury suites, Cascades is an older property than the Kempinski but I actually preferred the range of restaurants here. Spikes Bar - situated between the 18th green and the pool, is the perfect place to enjoy a break from the sun and lunch overlooking the golf course. The main restaurant, Dunes, offer very good international cuisine but the nicest by far was the fine dining L’Albatros restaurant - located on the 9th green and the golf course’s central lake with a scenic backdrop – with wonderful choices of European-inspired cuisine, focusing on seafood.

only capture priceless moments but also create breath-taking photographs. GET COMFORTABLE

I would always suggest meeting with the photographers you’ve shortlisted to check you’re happy to work with them as it’s important you feel at ease. Also take a look at their studio and set up to ensure they’re prepared. Pre-wedding shoots will increase your comfort in front of the camera and help you connect with the photographer, who’ll help you understand your best sides and how to and how not to pose. A LITTLE TIDY UP

It depends on your package, but many don’t offer an airbrushing service as it’s very time consuming. At The VIP Studio we have full time photo editors who make those little flaws disappear while ensuring it looks very natural. As photographers we try to make sure the photos are as perfect as possible but certain things you have to leave to post production. DON’T FORGET

It’s important to ask about liability insurance, VAT and whether the photographer has a back up camera and gear, just in case. WHEN TO BOOK

The next thing after the wedding venue. If you find someone whose work and personality is exactly what you’re looking for, don’t wait, book them! The best in the industry are never available for long. Companies such as ours start to get booked 6-12 months in advance.
