Clubs & Activities

UK’s First Walking Basketball Sessions for the Over 50s Surrey Heat Basketball Club set up the first Walking Basketball sessions in the country for those in the 50+ age group using funding from the England Basketball Ball Again project. This is a walking pace version of the fast and furious game we are all used to – accessible to both men and women. Richard Jeffries, Health and Well-being co-ordinator for Age UK Surrey is supportive of the Walking Basketball sessions. ‘We are happy to support this project, which complements our other healthy activities for older people.’ Keen participant, Keith Stainer, commented: “After a brief introduction to the sport, some practice on the basic steps and a run down on the court layout we were off! What followed was 30 minutes of fast moving fun. It is surprising how difficult it is to stop yourself running, yes even for the over 50s! But even after that short time my throwing and catching skills seemed to improve. Alas the same cannot be said for my shooting skills, something to work on in the weeks ahead!” Leatherhead Leisure Centre - Tuesdays 10.30am-11.30am - First session free as a taster.
