MCMV PROJECT

One of the main aims of the BarrioComplex was to elevate the railway. Not only can it create social spaces, but it can be a new multi modal transportation interchanger. From being the most problematic sector of the area to one of its most valuable assets. “From divider to connector.” - (Jauregui, 2011)

Reigniting a society where all ages can interact. It will serve a purpose for young teenagers to stay away from persuasive criminal gangs, can become a strip for job generating.

“This kind of projects provide the historical opportunity to act and think with new parameters that precisely privilege the quality of public life, proposing new relationships with the environment, where the public facilities have a central function in rearticulating the coexistence among differences.”

Luis Jauregui

The original aspect of the project was to overturn the ‘broken city’ to a functional one. Achieving social housing and infrastructure you must start with the neighbourhood. To remedy the divided neighbourhood their solution was simple, elevate the railway in which divides the community. Elevating it created a public walkway and spaces in which a community can integrate and thrive, perhaps through trade or social inclusion/ interaction.

Spaces that will be given to the divided 28,000 habitant community will introduce a larger market for opportunities and ability to self-govern a legal trade that will positively infect the morale of the community, rather than being a lost, informal, disconnected population.

The project, which is essentially an overpass, ensures this part of the city is connected to other urban and rural infrastructures, encouraging social interaction, which was lost to the communities beforehand.
