sephora pop-up store

]

The intention of this project was to design a 1,000 square foot modular pop-up store that represents the language and client experience of a typical Sephora store, but is reconceived as a more temporary, concentrated brand experience.

modularity The store is a freestanding structure made up four square columns and several eight-foot and seven-foot shelving panels. These modular units can be arranged in variety of ways allowing the store to be reconfigured and adapt to different locations or environments. This also creates a simple means of installation and relocation for the temporary retail space. In addition, the store has four different points of entry and therefore can be accessed from all sides. With this type of layout, the store can be successful in several settings including an outdoor location or within a mall or large shopping center.

Products are displayed and showcased against backlit LED wall. Underneath cabinetry provides storage for merchandise and top panel can be used for graphics and labeling.

the beauty studio Serves as the focal point of design as the one-on-one consultation is an important aspect of the Sephora experience. Taking on the shape of the iconic flame logo, the large counter helps divide the store and helps create circulation and a sense of flow within the small space. Also its considerable size and location is not only inviting to clientele but also serves as a central hub for employees. The counter itself provides a great deal of storage underneath as well.

central atrium The main public space is centrally located within the large open atrium. The reception, exhibition area, and grand staircase are all located within this large architectural feature. Through skylights and window walls, the atrium also provides the building with a great amount of natural light and ventilation.

houseware store & fondue

]

Project focused on creating a concept for a for a new line of kitchen and housewares stores. Development of a store name, color scheme, store image, and fixtures were included within the design. In addition the program called for an in-house coffee shop/fondue restaurant and re-examination of the fondue dining experience specifically the design of the fondue pot.

organization The store and restaurant were organized along a central axis that aligned with the 3 main destinations: the housewares cashwrap, food demonstration area, and fondue cashwrap. The grand staircase provides a focal point that dictates the main circulation within the building.

architecture The wrapping architectural ribbons seen throughout the design provide a sense of direction that highlight the main paths of circulation and major destinations. The sleek modern structures composed of LEDs create a nice contrast to the more natural rustic surroundings.

fixtures The fixtures were design as modular units that can be stacked and arranged in a variety of ways depending on the merchandise they are displaying.

branding Graphic and branding strategies focused on creating a rustic yet contemporary design aesthetic that appeals to a young adult client base. Simple and natural materials serve as a clean neutral background that allows merchandise to shine. The use of large lifestyle graphics provide a pop of color and enhance the overall image of the store/restaurant.

fondue The design of the fondue pot was inspired by the aesthetic of the store & restaurant. The continuous form is able to hold fondue and dippers in an all-in-one fashion but also provides the user flexibility to spread out. They can be arranged so that people can easily share their different fondue. Also the heating mechanism is removable allowing for easy dish washing and cleaning.

space view exhibition

An exhibit designed for a company called Spaceview that is marketing commercial flights to space. The program called for an experiential element, a lounge space, conference room, interactive kiosks, information booth and display of the vehicle model. Branding and logo design were also required.

concept development The design focused on an interweaving path of circulation with the vehicle model positioned as the focal point. The overlapping curves create a sense of flow and mystery, pushing the visitors throughout the different spaces. Multimedia walls and interactive kiosks provide an engaging yet informative environment.

balinese resort villa

]

Located in Uluwatu, Bali, this research-based project focused on creating a private retreat where the user is immersed into the culture of the place. Drawing inspiration from the physical environment and Balinese lifestyle, this type of resort is designed to stimulate wellness in a harmonious fashion focusing on improving the mind, body, and soul.

division of 3

BALI

Based on the concept of tripartite division, the Balinese believe everything in the natural world can be divided into 3. Their principle philosophy of Tri Hita Karana also deals with 3 harmonious relationships, just like wellness is can be broken down into 3 aspects: mind, body, and soul. Therefore the division of 3 plays a major role in the compositional strategy and drives the overall design.

outdoor dining

Maintaining harmony between human and nature is essential to the Balinese culture. The presence of nature plays an important role in improving and sustaining health and wellness. Therefore the architecture should reflect this important connection with nature with all spaces having the ability to be open to the outdoors.

knock-down furniture

]

A small coffee table design that has the capability to break down and fit inside a standard shipping box. Designed with retailers like Ikea and Target in mind, where ready-to-assemble furniture is sold. Creating a functional yet simple aesthetic was the ultimate goal.

connections The Lamello Clamex P system allows for detachable connections only with the use of an allen key. Its applicable for both miter and butt joints. These connections provides the ability for quick and easy assembly and disassembly of the table. When furniture piece is dissembled the parts can be easily stacked and transported.

continuous variations The small table was designed with the simple concept of creating the illusion of a continuous surface without interruption. That therefore allows the table to be flipped onto any side and still remain functional. This provides the user three different visual options within a single piece of furniture.
