Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Hanover County. The crash occurred Monday, Nov. 29 at 2:45 p.m. on Interstate 295 at the 39 mile marker. A 2018 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on I-295 at a high rate of speed when it ran off the left side of the interstate and struck a cement, overpass support column. The impact
of the crash caused the Jeep to catch fire. The driver, Tyler A. Gunnels, 24, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Submitted by Corinne Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police.
