he returned to Richmond and began work with State Planters Bank and Trust Company (now SunTrust), serving from 1944 to 1984, ultimately as Senior VicePresident in charge of Trust. While working there, he taught public speaking at John Marshall night school, served as President of the Richmond Estate Planning Council and Chairman of the Virginia Bankers Association Trust Committee, and earned a degree from Rutgers Graduate School of Banking (1957), where his thesis was accepted to the libraries at Rutgers and Harvard Business School. In the 1970s, Henry authored a nationally distributed trust newsletter. Upon retiring from the bank in 1988, he was asked to serve as Trust Counsel for what was

then Crestar Bank. He later moved into private law practice with Kimberly A. Pinchbeck, P.C. and fully retired in 2008. Henry served as a Director and Chairman of the Tuckahoe YMCA in the 1970s. He was an Elder at St. Giles Presbyterian Church and later a member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. He truly found God in nature, working in his garden and fishing the waters of The Cohoke Club (West Point), where he was a former President and member for almost 50 years, pursuing his passion there up until his death. Henry was devoted to Mary Lane, the love of his life, to whom he was married for almost 70 years. He loved his garden, bass fishing, spotting hawks, boxing, running, sto-

rytelling with his children and grandchildren, weekly poker and lunch with his buddies, Kipling, spy thrillers, John Wayne, stewed tomatoes and corn pudding, a good chocolate milkshake, an occasional whiskey sour, and cheering on his beloved Virginia Cavaliers. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Westminster Canterbury and St. Mary’s Hospital for their heartfelt care and support. A service to celebrate Henry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church at 7000 Park Avenue in Richmond, with a reception to follow there. A memorial also will be held in April at Westminster Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuckahoe Presbyterian Endowment Fund or Good Neighbor Village, 8825 Buffin Rd., Richmond, VA 23221.

11, 2018. God in His infinite wisdom, called him from this world to a new home in heaven, to dwell with Him in eternal rest. He was born February 15, 1952, in Goochland, o the late Mabel Brice and Earl C. Barrett. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Second Union Baptist Church in Goochland. Gene was the tenth of thirteen siblings. He was a hard and devoted worker at whatever he did. He will be remembered for the love he shared with each member of his family and others as well. His presence shall surely be missed by all who knew and loved EUGENE him. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Brice, and father, Earl C. Barrett, three brothers, Leroy C. Brice, Earl T. Barrett and Oscar (O.Z.) Barrett. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Fannie J. Barrett; daughter, Valencia Smith (Sean) of Rockville; three sons, Ira Jones of Waldorf, Maryland, Eugene Barrett Jr of Oklahoma and Joshua Barrett of Rockville; six sisters, Betty Barrett of Glen Allen, Rev Bertha Jackson (George) of Goochland, Gladys Johnson (Charles) of Washington, D.C., Shirley Goode, Lucille Melvin of New York, New York, and Elsie Barrett of Rockville; three brothers, Richard Barrett (Connie) and William Barrett (Shirley) of Goochland, Curtis Barrett (Sharon) of Temple Hills, Maryland; stepsister, Lena Logan; stepbrother, Marion Waddy of Goochland; mother-in-law, Virginia Mason of Richmond; sister-in-laws, Beverly Jones of Chesapeake; Linda Johnson (Earl) of Richmond and Shelia Long of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Noah Smith, Bobby Barrett, Brandon Barrett, Christian Barrett and Kayla Barrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday,

March 16, 2018, at Abner Baptist Church in Glen Allen. Owens Funeral Services in Ashland was in charge of arrangements.

EDITH DURRETT Edith Flippo Durrett, 83, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Durrett. Edith was a teacher at Kiddie Kingdom for over 30 years. She was an active member with United Methodist Wo m e n and served in several c ap a c it i e s throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her DURRETT children, Janet Flynn (Rob) and Brian Durrett (Anne); grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Grace, Jacob and Eli; sisters, Evelyn Durrett, Doris Morefield and her husband, Stuart; nephews, Jeff and Greg; and nieces, Carla, Cathy, Tammy and Ruby. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Rehoboth United Methodist Church at 18580 Partlow Road in Beaverdam. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
