DiCaprio finally recieves Mandela’s gift Leonardo Dicaprio is set to receive a long overdue personal gift from Nelson Mandela thanks to a generous memorabilia dealer. The late anti-apartheid hero posed for a photo with the actor when DiCaprio was in South Africa filming Blood Diamond, and personally signed the picture with the message, “To Leo DiCaprio, Best Wishes, Mandela, 4-8-07” as a gift to the film star in 2007. However, the memento never reached DiCaprio and was bought by memorabilia dealer Gary Zimet at an auction in Europe. Zimet, who is boss of auction site Moments in Time, has reportedly had offers of more than $US25,000 ($A27,049) for the picture, but now he plans to give it to its intended owner instead. He tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, “I’m doing it because it’s the right thing to do.”

Aussie athlete upstages Kylie Aussie athlete Genevieve LaCaze found a unique way to celebrate her 25th birthday by crashing the stage during Kylie Minogue’s performance at the Commonwealth Games’ closing ceremony. The steeplechase runner, who placed 5th in the 3000m event, took it upon herself to stand in for the diva after Minogue skipped off stage for a quick costume change. The cheeky athlete placed herself in among the half-naked male dancers and waved her Australian flag over her head while smiling enthusiastically. She was soon escorted off stage but later, LaCaze retweeted several messages of support for her onstage antics.

Back in time A familiar news story was playing out in July 2003: The housing market is showing signs of becoming overheated – soaring prices attract speculators. A surge in house prices in the June quarter more than outweighed lower interest rates and a slight increase in wages. The median house price rose 7.7 per cent in the quarter to an all-time high of $210,000.
Big plans for wildlife park Whangarei’s Kingdom Of Zion wildlife park could finally be the major tourist attraction it’s had the potential to become now that it has been taken over by an investment company that plans to turn it into a “worldclass facility” for breeding and showing big cats. Bolton Equities, which is based in Remuera, Auckland, but has land holdings in Northland, has bought the park from Earth Crest and the park is being upgraded to meet new rules around animal enclosures. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) ordered the park closed to the public between July 1 and July 31 while the animal enclosures were upgraded to meet new standards. MPI has now extended the closure until August 31, when the park is likely to be renamed Kamo Wildlife Sanctuary, director Martin Weekes said. The park, in Gray Road, Kamo, sprung to international fame as home to TV personality The Lion Man, Craig Busch, but while Mr Busch is not involved in the new ownership, he was always welcome to visit the park he started, Mr Weekes said.

Obsolete autographs Taylor Swift says she hasn’t been asked for an autograph in years. “There are a few things I have witnessed becoming obsolete in the past few years, the first being autographs,” she wrote for the Wall Street Journal. “I haven’t been asked for an autograph since the invention of the iPhone with a frontfacing camera. The only memento ‘kids these days’ want is a selfie”.
