The district’s scout population gathered at Lake Camp last weekend to mark Founders Day, and hold its annual Raft Race Day. Scouts from around the Mania-o-Roto district had to build their own raft and race it across Lake Camp, with a group from Methven the eventual winners on what was a tough, windless day for rafting. Founders Day marks the birthday of Scouts founder Baden Powell and is about celebrating the achievements of young people. PHOTO SUPPLIED

IDEA members take students on in sport

Eighteen children from Mayfield and Mt Somers schools spent several hours having lunch and games with IDEA Services members during the annual event organised by the Mayfield Lions. Mayfield School principal Richard Kidd said it was a great chance for students to mix with people who are a little bit different to them. “The children enjoyed the experience of mixing and talking with the adults from IDEA Services.” Fourteen Year 6 to 8 students from Mayfield and four Year 7 to 8 students from Mt Somers attended the lunch. The event included rides in vintage cars, golf carts and a fire engine as well as a game of cricket.
