Coronation Target Shooting Club The Coronation club kicked off the 2017 competition season with a road trip to the small Otago town of Outram for a shoot against the West Taieri club. The welcome extended to our members was nothing short of magnificent. The tiny 4 mound range was described by some of our members as “cute” with a pebble garden similarity complete with sunken path and even a garden gnome. The match was decided by a complicated system of individual handicaps and a final team average. The local team finished with a score 195.57 to Coronation 198.15. meaning we brought home the inaugural “Young Hunter” trophy. T.J. Stewart collected the trophy for the highest (with handicap) score of 205.10 while Steve McArthur was top off the rifle with 199.15. Other good scores off the rifle were T.J. 197.10, Sandy Bennett 197.9, Bryan Hunter 196.9, Graham Hunter 195.10 and Nina McKenzie 194.12. To score well with handicap were Michaela Smith 201.7, Shaye Robb 198.3, Emma
Smith 198.3 and Dean Smith 197.4. The day culminated in a B.B.Q. at the home of one of the West Taieri members and talk about “killing the fatted lamb”. On the home scene the club has recently completed a Range Officers certification course where a number of members were successful in passing the test and being approved to act as Range Officers. The club also trialled the running of a “Training Camp” for shooters seeking Island and National honours.
Mid Canterbury Ladies Club President Bernie Tutty welcomed 60 members and 1 visitor to our March meeting. The National Anthem was sung. During correspondence the new name for our parent organisation was announced “Friendship New Zealand Inc”. Almoner Val Johnson reported on a busy time since Christmas. Members were reminded of the Mystery Bus Trip on Friday 10. Social mornings for coffee and movie are well represented. Raffles were won by Marion Oakden, Katherine Heffernan and Cora Petrie. Following morning tea our 29th AGM was held. President Bernie again welcomed all present before reading her very comprehensive report. An interesting reminder of a very busy year. Treasurer Ruth Clucas presented her budget report. The club continues in good financial heart. Gwen Clucas was asked to take the chair for the election of Officers and Committee. Elected were: President Bernie Tutty, Treasurer Ruth Clucas, Secretary Marg Watson Returning committee: Val Johnson, Lorraine Pringle, Julie Begg, Heather Mowatt, Avis Kingsland, New Nominations Olive Munroe and Margaret Haskett. Flowers were presented to retiring committee members Val Farr and Jean Smith who have given several years’ service to the club. The thought for the month was: “One person can make a difference and every person should try.”
