Transferring CORD Biology helps students develop the ability to transfer skills and knowledge from one setting to another. In Chapter 7, “Bacteria and Viruses,” students learn about various roles of bacteria and viruses—from harmful pathogen to agent for food processing to genetically engineered producer of substances of economic importance. The example in Figure 14 shows how students take that information and use it to determine what businesses in their local community might involve microorganisms in some way.
