NEIGHBORHOOD INTERLOT SPACE

Cloud Development Areas: Placing our cloud within existing framework of our suburban blocks allows communal access, a sense of ownership, territorial marking and easier organization. It honors the existing houses and touches them delicately and only when necessary.

In the sense of consecutive spaces our minds occupy, an increasing and alarming number are digital landscapes. These spaces are not physical locations. They are not at the end of the block, or around the corner. They are in our pockets, on our phones and on our computer screens. They are wherever the mind sees them. The digital landscapes we occupy are increasingly eclipsing our physical realities- office spaces fade into our subconscious and our mind instead focuses on the occupation of web spaces, digital interaction, icons, and imagery. These digital lives we lead need to be reintegrated into our physical realms. An integration of digital architecture into the physical world beyond the confines of a simple LCD screen is tantamount to progressing toward a brighter, more productive, more efficient, more collaborative future. We do not need bigger houses. We do not need a way to stack houses on top of each other. We need smarter houses. We need houses that enable us to plug into our physical and digital cultures in environments which promote healthy personal and communal ideals.

Architecture will not change only in form and pattern, it will change in how it is used, and where it is placed. Our current architectures are marvels of material technology still confined to the brutality of our antiquated frameworks and ideals. These frameworks and ideals are in fact the things which need the most revolutionary changes. A smart house can only be so smart in an unintelligent system. How can we evolve our ideals to adapt to a world where any surface can be a portal made to access the infinite metascapes of the digital universe? Spatial requirements have changed such that nearly half of our daily regimen is spent at a computer screen or engaging a digital society. Our new architecture must accommodate and enlighten this. As architecture must be our embodiment of social ideals and personal order, so must this translate into our digital life.
