ALUM SPOTLIGHT: DAVID ATWOOD THIS ASH GRADUATE'S VOICE IS HEARD. by: Elizabeth D.

A couple of years ago around Christmas time, David Atwood was browsing the aisles of Walmart, just like any other shopper. What made Atwood a little different was when he walked up to a movie in the store that he narrated. said.

“I decided to buy the movie for my little niece, and that was a cool moment,” Atwood

That movie was What She Wants For Christmas, and Atwood worked as not only the narrator, but also the voiceover for Santa. “I cherished that moment when my niece figured out it was my voice in the movie and was excited about it.” Throughout his career, he self-taught himself how to voiceover and act through speaking. He credits his theater background with helping him in his delivery of text. Aside from voice overs and narration, radio has always been there for Atwood. In the mornings, one can tune in and hear Atwood hosting the "Melissa and Dave Show" on 100.3 KRRV, where he and his co-host recently won the Best Personality Team from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. “You may hear me all the time and never know it,” Atwood quipped. He’s voiced over for the Saintsations, LSU Football, the New Orleans Pelicans, main characters and narrators in movies, to name a few. One of Atwood’s favorite memories was hearing his voice during the Super Bowl XLIV, where the Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts. “I introduced the Saintsations and that’s a standout memory for me,” Atwood said. Atwood graduated in 1977, alongside his future wife, even though the couple didn’t date in high school. They both worked on the Scroll, the school’s newspaper. Following graduation, the two reconnected and eventually married. “I was very involved in music in high school. I was in the marching band and in the jazz band. ASH is a special place, and it’s where I created a lot of strong bonds,” Atwood said. After living in different cities, Atwood has settled in Alexandria where he records voiceovers in his home studio. Whether he’s gearing up for the day on the radio, or voicing over for a commercial, the love for his job is sensed in his tone and delivery. Although one can only hear his voice, Atwood’s enthusiasm and joy are undeniable.
