blues, while other brilliant brush strokes of color dash behind it. The world seems to be in motion, blurring with the speed of it all. “Amarmus," on the other hand, jolts the senses. It radiates brilliant cadmium red and crimsons that remind the viewer of the grandiosity of Mother Nature, while red curved lines lick over the entire scene like crimson tongues of fire. The painting is organic and surreal and makes you wonder what life force would actually look
like. It's a rush of color and composition that perfectly demonstrates how Paulo Teixeira Lopes’s paintings at times seem to harness raw emotions and trap them onto the canvas. "Egoiste" (2012) features a single pink thistle flower against a lush green background, and it is riveting even in its simplicity. Teixeira Lopes takes ordinary things and transforms them, and they practically breathe with emotion. In what seem like companion pieces, "Yin" and "Yang" (2013) seem like twin mirrors of the same lush garden. His professional experience involves working with the Ministry of Education, serving as a secondary school professor in visual arts. He worked as the creative designer as well as creative director for the newspaper O’Porto. He was one of the members who managed the Artists Cooperative of Gaia in 1988 and 1989. Teixeira Lopes currently works as a teacher at INED and has a master's degree in arts and media from the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. Teixeira Lopes’ artistic work has addressed topics such as social and cultural changes among his native people of Portugal. Here is an artist whose main intention is to connect with the people around him, to ignite a feeling of togetherness, within all emotions and realities.
