Poetry Out Loud
POETRY CHAMP
H
annah Dayaget (pictured), a senior at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, is South Dakota’s 2022 State Poetry Out Loud champion. Poetry Out Loud is a program created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and carried out by the South Dakota Arts Council. Poetry Out Loud encourages youth to appreciate poetry as an oral art form. Hannah competed in the National Finals in May and earned the runner-up position in the original spoken word Poetry Ourselves competition. Last year’s South Dakota champion, Rahele Megosha, went on to win the national contest and a $20,000 prize.
Editor’s Note: Our last Arts Alive newsletter incorrectly indicated that Rahele Megosha attended Roosevelt High School, but she is a 2021 graduate of Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
