Four state leaders join Arts South Dakota board

ommunity representa"on is a vital element in forging a future for the arts in South Dakota. As an advocacy organiza"on, Arts South Dakota strives to invite diverse and dedicated community representa"ves to join its board of directors. The group is proud to welcome four such leaders to the board: Lance Bertram, Pierre; Jim Mathis, Sioux Falls; Lynn Verschoor, Brookings and Kris Wollman, Pierre. Lance Bertram manages Avera Parkwood Assisted Living in Pierre. He formerly worked for the Ramkota hotels and is an amateur, published photographer. Lance has stayed connected and suppor"ve of Arts South Dakota since the founding of the organiza"on. He has been a constant ally for the arts in Pierre and brings strong rela"onships to his work with Arts South Dakota.

Jim Mathis is the owner of the Sioux Falls adver"sing agency ADwerks. He has long been an outspoken leader of the arts in Sioux Falls, serving on several prominent boards including Sioux Falls SculptureWalk and the Washington Pavilion Board of Trustees, which he will lead as Chair this year. Jim and his wife Kara have also been faithful contributors to Arts South Dakota since the forma"on of the advocacy group. Lynn Verschoor re"red in December of 2019 a#er serving 20 years as the director of the South Dakota Art Museum. Lynn was also involved in the crea"on of the Brookings Public Art Commission, helped create the museum studies minor at SDSU and worked with the Brookings Kite Fes"val and Harvey Dunn Paint Out. For over 30 years, she has exhibited her own art in some of her favorite mediums of surface design on fabric, fel"ng and ceramics. Lynn has a strong understanding of the importance of a statewide advocacy organiza"on. Kris Wollman recently moved from Aberdeen to Pierre where she is the Deacon at Lutheran Memorial Church. She was director of Worship and Music at Bethlehem Lutheran in Aberdeen and was also ac"ve in community theater there. She has a vocal music degree from Augustana University and spent 30 years in Sioux Falls teaching and direc"ng choirs. She has served on various community and state boards, recently finishing a term on the Lutheran Social Services State Board. Music and the arts have been a major part of her life.
