Black and Minority Ethnic respondents had a similar level of attendance and slightly higher participation level when compared to white respondents. Respondents in this group were more likely to have attended carnivals and street art events and to have participated in dance. Barriers to attending or participating were generally similar to white respondents. One notable difference was the lower awareness of Arts Council of Wales amongst this group.

Communities First respondents exhibited broadly similar levels of engagement with the arts as did residents of other areas. They had similar levels of attendance and participation to the rest of the population as were levels of interest in future attendance and participation.

Disabled Disabled respondents and respondents with a long term illness were somewhat less likely than other respondents to attend the various art forms at least once a year. However levels of participation amongst this group were only slightly lower. Health not being good enough was considered to be a key barrier to attending/participating. Compared to others, members of this group were more likely to attend arts in their local area and participation was more likely to take place at home. While half of this group attend art events more than once a year, three-quarters expressed an interest in future attendance, meaning that there is an opportunity to increase the frequency of attendance amongst this group.

People in DE sociosocio-economic groups19 reported lower levels of attendance and participation than those in other socio-economic groups. While cost and time were considered to be the key barriers to attending, levels of interest were also found to be lower as highlighted in responses to the attitude statement regarding the feeling of being out of place in an art gallery/museum.

Welsh language speakers, speakers, in contrast to most of the other groups of interest, these respondents were more likely than others to have attended arts activities, with higher proportions attending a wider range of the listed art forms. Participation was also higher amongst this group, particularly in music. Respondents in this group showed a keen interest in future attendance and participation, particularly
