Kathleen Berry Bergeron is a well established and

famous Artist from Vermont, New England USA.She was born in a small town in Northern Vermont. She showed much interest in art at an early age and her parents encouraged her along the way.She took private art lessons in high school and they were kind enough to buy her the materials she needed. Even though they were not wealthy, they found a way for her to travel to Europe the summer of her senior year to study art with the foreign language art league. She traveled to Rome, Florence, and Paris and it was an enlightening experience.“Painting is a journey into the creative spirit. It allows my soul to soar to new heights with excitement and promise. Every painting presents new challeng-

es and rewards. I am very blessed to be an Artist and love to bring the joy I feel for it to others.” 10

Kathleen began her passion for Art with her parent’s support and encouragement. Her work has evolved over the years and her enthusiasm for teaching grown. She has participated in numerous shows and won many awards throughout the nation. She is a member of the Essex Art League, is on the Board of Directors of the Northern Vermont Artists’ Association, and a Signature Member of the Vermont Watercolor Society. Kathleen teaches classes and workshops in Watercolor. She is described by her students as warm, friendly, highly motivational and creates a positive environment for learning and enjoyment. “Painting is my passion, my energy and my source of constant fascination”.She says!

Kathleen Bergeron is inspired by a number of artists who can paint precisely with passion and freedom, examples include Don Andrews, Jean Haines , Birgit O’Connor, Mel Stabin, Linda Kemp. She lives in the beautiful state of Vermont in northern New England, therefore, the majestic landscapes and changing seasons are a constant source of inspiration to her. She absolutely loves to paint outside in natural surroundings. It allows her to see the whole picture and make decisions on what is important to capture and what is non-essential detail. “The light is always changing, therefore, it forces you to make the crucial decision quickly and expressively. It is one of the best ways to fine-tune your craft”She says! She loves the challenge that watercolor can create. She totally gets lost in the process of painting and likes to think of watercolor-like a “dance partner”and then learn to move with it, not control it. .

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

She goes on”I seem to always be working on more than one project at a time. I have to keep my “mojo” going and in order to do that, I have to challenge myself and try new directions. I am currently working on creating expressive paintings that tell a story and involve the viewer. I am also working on projects to do with my students” Kathleen always looks for new ways

to adapt her style to those she admires. She loves going to galleries and exhibitions and educate herself more on the techniques of others and how it has worked to create their way of painting. .

“I am a colorist, therefore, I love to push the envelope with my palette. I believe that you should have fun with color and not always paint things the color they appear”Kathleen. .

Egret Elegance Her style of work is“expressive”. She strives to capture the essence of a scene or portrait and eliminate non-essential details. She works fast and loose and this allows her the freedom to be playful and hopefully hold the viewer’s interest. A gradual change from dark to light values and different hues create a harmony and balance.

She carefully combines the art elements in involved ways to achieve intricate and complex relationships.Variety can be seen through the use of diversity and change increasing the visual interest of her works. “Currently, I am working on a series of paintings in which I am trying to capture the illusion of “lights” permeating throughout the painting. Try to eliminate unnecessary details and have the light as the primary focus”.She adds. .

“Painting soothes my soul, is my passion, my energy and my source of constant fascination” 12

The Sleigh Ride “

Kathleen created a line of greeting cards, limited edition prints, t-shirts, maple syrup bottles, tote bags all to get her work out there to be seen. It also provides an opportunity for people who otherwise may not be able to buy an original to collect some of her other artwork.

I have a couple of favorite experiences. I love being outside in 70-degree weather on the top of a mountain beginning a painting with wonder and anticipation. I also love the experience of seeing the joy in a student’s eyes where they try a new method or technique and it works. The sense of wonder they get is breathtaking and never gets old. This is why I teach”She Says! Kathleen is planning a book on watercolor. It will be a how-to book based on the knowledge she has acquired over the years. She teaches classes and workshops throughout the year and therefore continuously challenges herself to try new techniques and explore new ways of capturing a subject so that she can continue to bring enthusiasm and motivation to her classes. To the upcoming Artists she says ,paint, paint, paint! Look for opportunities to show your work and market it. Marketing involves considerable time but is necessary.

This is the place where nature and civilization come together in the most colorful of ways. The natural hues of the green—specifically, the soft sunlight on the grass and golden grains of the sand—contain powerful messages of peace and tranquility.Kathleen Bergeron creates magnificent pieces of Art. Kathleen was the winner of the Mary Bryan Award in 2007 for “Venice Canal” as well as numerous other awards over the years. Several prints on cards have been chosen by VT Governor Jim Douglas as Governor’s Christmas Greeting Cards between 2007 and 2010.“First Snow, Stowe, VT” in print was chosen by Jim Douglas as a gift to his constituents 2008.

“Watercolors can be unpredictable and tend to take on a life of their own. That’s the excitement for me. I paint every day; painting is my passion and also my release. What I most enjoy is throwing a little something extra in there to grab your attention, like putting together colors in ways you aren’t used to seeing. Our world is so full of color; why not paint it that way? I want people to feel happy when they see my work but ultimately what I want is that wow effect. “As an artist, my mission is to capture the essence of the subject rather than translate it literally. I like to leave some things up to the viewer to fill in. Less can be more in many instances. As a watercolorist, I am passionate about the journey, not just the end result. As an instructor, it gives me tremendous joy and fulfillment to share my knowledge with others.” Kathleen Berry Bergeron

Kathleen Berry Bergeron paintings exclusively impress us in the form of landscapes and nature and life, which we are able to see today and be inspired too.

PEBBLES

Myriad reflections of natural sketch, Vibgyor pebbles scattered stretch, Lying colourful pearls in wonder, Every shape and size on one another . Water flows singing songs of peace, Rainbow colours polished sheen, Abundant pieces of arbitrary gleam, Offspring of gracious dreams. Behold, perfect symmetry enchanted, the mirth of eternal life displayed, Open temple of sanctity cherished, Stones on golden grains bedecked. Dazzling hues vibration vigour, Life is at harmony of adventure, Small or big in tranquillity shine, Soothing memories left behind. Gems of hope changing contours, Prayers of shores paths confers, Splashes of hours imprison shapes, Sculpture carved by stormy waves. Jyotirmaya Thakur copyright 2017.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

(You are beautiful as you are.) You are the eternal fountain of life, You are the cosmos in an atom reside, A grain of sand in desert spread wide, Garden of Eden is forever in your mind. You are wisely beautiful as tall trees, As you grow older in seasonal bliss, Adjust colours and shape holistically, Innocence of infancy returns in seniority. You are the beautiful sights of eternity, As you write your own story of creativity, The inborn artist of masterpiece worthy, In failures, confusion or solitude serenity.

PEACE ON EARTH Artists. Live Magazine

Christmas is a time of venerable peace, You can look at bejewelled stacks of trees, And the world often perceived as intense, When family reunions break messy fence. Snow’s candid praise bedeck the gate, Children hang their socks and wait , It is the eve of Christmas never late, Harbinger of change in humanity’s fate. The sounds of sweet carols from afar, In azure clear sky a shining star, Bright bulbs and tinsel, cinnamon, cloves, Nuts and raisins as cold pierces gloves. The bells are ringing chimes sublime, Harmony illuminate every soul divine, Festival of charity, celebration combine, Trinity of holy spirit in celestial shine. Cards inscribed in peace, joy and love, Prophesy of baby Jesus in stable grove, Turkey stuffed drips sizzling in stoves, Fruits and desserts lined in shoves. The unbroken songs of peace on earth, Resound clear and loud in magnified mirth, Baggage of past guilt, hate are strong , Wrong shall be buried and right be born. Jyotirmaya Thakur copyright 24/12/17.

You are beautiful dawns and dusks, Secret of life hidden in fragrant musk, Cherishing soulful rhythm of earth, Leaving imprints of footsteps in dust.

You are the beautiful pure existence, Like mighty mountains, deep ocean, Green meadows, stream consciousness, You are the most beautiful articulation, Mortal moments sink in immortal substance. Pristine designer of nature’s ascendance,

Unity in diversity, transcend all differences, Rare philosopher, beauty par excellence. Jyotirmaya Thakur copyright 29/11/17.

LOTUS Lotus the sacred flower has been a powerful image. It is the symbol of creativity, creation and rebirth. As lotus is pure in the water, so the soul is also pure,in the absolute purity of heart and mind. It is also symbolic of detachment as drops of water easily slides of its petals. Spiritual teachings hold that Lotus represented the Sun, Creation and Rebirth, It also symbolises female sexual organs from which new life is born. It is also used to describe female beauty especially female eyes. The Lotus flower closes its petals at night and sinks underwater to rise and open the petals at dawn again. So it is said it gives birth to sun.Lotus is one of the eight auspicious signs of Buddhism and Hinduism and eight petals Lotus seen in Buddhist mandala means cosmic harmony.Lotus is the vehicle of the goddess Padma mother of Universe female Shakti. It is also said the that it had is origin as emitting from the navel of Lord Vishnu, Upon opening it gave birth to Lord Brahma. The role of Lord Brahma was to recreate the Universe after the great flood on this Planet. In order to create the Universe. He used the different parts of the Lotus plant. Lotus share other characteristics like medical and edible value. In the pond nothing is more beautiful than Lotus, The flower of dawn. Exquisite flower symbolizes the Purity, Serenity, Commitment and Optimism of the future, as it grows in muddy water, it rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty.

Pratima Singh

is a wellknown self-taught artist with a diverse educational background i.e. Masters in chemistry. Her artwork has always been focused on promoting the culture & heritage. She was born in a very small & beautiful town of Renukoot in Sonbhadra district. She did her first schooling from there and then moved to Lucknow for further studies. She was the eldest among her siblings. Her mother is a homemaker and father was a scientist working abroad. Her father was her role model and always wanted her to become a scientist like him that was one reason Pratima Singh did her masters in chemistry.

P 20

Although she pursued her studies in science, she had developed a knack for drawing. She also started helping her brother & sisters in all the drawing related projects. After getting married she was working in a multinational company while her husband was working in a public sector unit. She left her job when they were blessed with their only son. After that, she wanted to give him the best care. During that period, she started painting and the sole aim was to decorate her home with different forms of painting. During the first days, her work was focused on ‘Forms of Ganesha’ only. The subject of Ganesha kept her engrossed and interested for a long time and then, gradually she started to explore some folk art forms as well. The reason behind this gradual evolution of interest in folk arts came from her passion and sense of belonging to the diverse culture of India. This was a big turning point in her artistic journey. This is when she realized what she really wanted from the artist within her. From that day, she has never looked back and devoted herself in knowing about our culture, tradition & customs.

P R A T I M A S I N G H

“ It is my good fortune that I have grown up in a family who loves tradition, culture and education, which is a heritage. Whatever customs I saw from my eyes, I made them a part of the life of my paintings. those thoughts and emotions are my inspiration to draw a picture and I also got inspiration from the sacraments received by my mother. There was a time when I drew a lot of pictures of gods and goddesses after listening to folklore, folktales and tried to get some joy in all those things. I always believed that the God-Goddessthe imagination itself is paramount, even though the ordinary shapes and views around me attracted me a lot but now that my belief and my decision of mind is in the form of diversity, I will see each of them in different colours, shapes and sizes. All the colours of this world are internal and external, all their forms, which come forth from life, vibrate in my paintings. I started painting in a new style.Even if it is ordinary or extraordinary, Earlier which I saw as the God look now I find ideas from humans, animals, birds, trees, river, the mountains and nature. I believe that when a big objective is added to art, then it gets bigger. Efforts have been made to express spirituality through art in the world, even if there is Jesus in Europe, Rama, Krishna, Buddha in India or Tabo in China, I have been trying to reach stories to the masses through pictures. Our beliefs, traditions, thoughts are our identity. Whether it is in the form of a picture, whether it is in the form of an image, dance music or any other form of art, we should keep trying to enhance our pride and to give a new identity, by all its kind creation. This is our real heritage. This is what I consider as the real service of Mother Bharti”.She Says !

Hans Damyanti After the successful show of her solo exhibition “Virasat” at Lalit Kala Academy Delhi, she is presently working on a mythology based painting with short stories.

She uses acrylic colors on canvas. At times she uses some mixed mediums as it helps her to get antique looks in her works of art.The texural backgrouds are a historical fiesta.

Her Artshow “Virasat”, as the name suggests, was focused on showcasing the cultural identity through a very creative perspective, trying to join the dots of cultural heritage across multiple diverse cultures in India through a series of paintings.

In her paintings, the elements of color, line, and texture work together beautifully and in harmony to create rhythm. Patterns of shapes lead the eye across the canvas and color adds accents .Weaving an ancient art history in the minds of the viewers. 21

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

22

“Every artist would love all of their work. But in Virasat all the paintings based on “Gram” series, just like, Gram Devta, Gram Devi, Gram Manohar, Gram Badhu, Gram Darpan are my all time favorite as it depicted village culture in very creative forms. Another one on top of my favorite lists is “Rani Hada”. Hada Rani a legend , daughter of Hada Rajput married to Chundawat Chieftain of Salumbar, Mewar who sacrificed herself to motivate her husband to go to the War. When Maharana Raj Singh I (1653–1680) of Mewar called his son to join the battle against Aurangzeb, the Sardar, having married only a few days earlier hesitated about going into battle. He asked his wife Hada Rani for some memento to take with him to the battlefield. Thinking that she was an obstacle to his doing his duty for Mewar, she cut off her head and put it on a plate in her dying moments. A servant covered it with a cloth and presented it to her husband. The Sardar, devastated but proud, tied the memento around his neck by its hair. He fought bravely, making the Aurangzeb forces flee, and after his victory, he got to his knees and cut his neck, having lost the want to live.”Pratima Singh Says!

“The geopolitical and demographic diversity of India is unique in itself and opens up doors of opportunities to represent the cultural heritage of one-sixth of the world’s population to the rest of the world. I attempt to use my paintings as a medium to reach this aim.” - Pratima Singh

Pratima singh loves everything which is natural & simple. She loves her family and her work which provides her an opportunity to stay close to the culture. She just can’t appreciate the fact that certain people have hidden biases and they can’t appreciate diverse perspectives, this is something that she strongly disagrees with. Her paintings depict why so closely she is associated with the tradition and culture and how simple it becomes for her to explain the same.

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

She is passionate to promote and create awareness about India’s rich cultural heritage both within and outside of India. This passion in fact motivated her to course correct her journey as an artist from ‘Form of Ganesh’ to ‘Folk Arts of India’. For almost last 20 years, she has leveraged her art as medium to create awareness about the culture, history, regional folk practices & to motivate younger generations to acknowledge the same.

Artist Pratima Singh beautifully explores the Indian culture and the history through her “Virasat” of paintings and creates a nostalgic ambiance through the earthy colored exemplary works of art bringing us nearer to the mother nature and the historic past.We travel through them and come to learn and know a lot about the culture and traditions, so vibrantly explained!

LANA PRIVITERA

L

Award-winning watercolorist Lana Privitera, is well known for her realistic renditions of

buildings, people, animals and Still Life’s. Originally from Spain, Mrs. Privitera graduated in 1983 from the Fine Arts School of Zaragoza, where she majored in Fashion Design and Art History. After several visits to the U.S., she settled in New Jersey in 1995, starting then a very active career in its artistic community. By 2002, her watercolors were being regularly accepted in Juried Art Shows at State, National and International level, winning awards in many of them.

30

After a 10-year hiatus and a change of location, Mrs. Privitera returned again to the Art Scene in 2014. Since then, she has been busy painting new watercolors for a long list of Solo Exhibits, Group Shows and National and International Art Competitions. Since the very beginning of her art career, Light has played a key role in all of her compositions. She finds fascinating how light, with its infinite variations of hue, temperature, and intensity, is able to alter the mood of the objects and landscape around us. She chose watercolor as her medium not only because of the ethereal and luminous effects she’s able to achieve with it but for its rewarding immediacy and inherent difficulties as well. ART DEMONSTRATION

Painting Still-Life

After drawing carefully each of the major shapes and flowers in a semi-transparent large sheet of paper, I taped it to my glass door and then taped securely the WC paper on top of it. I then traced the drawing onto the WC paper being careful of not pressing too hard with the pencil –in case I needed to erase something later.

Artists. Live Magazine

As I usually do, I started painting in very light colored washes to stain the paper with the lightest values of each shape. It helps me to identify and confirm that the shapes are of the right size and that they are placed in the right spot. If I made a mistake, at this stage, it will be easy to correct. I call this “mapping my painting”. For the first coat of the Purple tree trunk, I mixed my own purple with W&N Permanent Rose & Ultramarine Blue. I also painted the lightest values of several of the flowers and leaves in the design. I use a pretty limited palette: Permanent Rose, Lemon yellow or raw Sienna, Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue. I mix any of these together to create the colors I need.

Using Winsor & Newton Raw Sienna (a quite transparent golden yellow), I covered all the areas that later were going to be painted red. That makes my reds more luminous. I didn’t use masking liquid in this painting. I left the paper white for certain highlights by painting carefully around them with the yellow.

31

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

Once the yellow undercoat was thoroughly dry, I deposited a light wash of Permanent Rose over it, turning that undercoat a pale orange red. Later, a bit of this orange red will show as the lightest red surrounding the white highlights. The yellow silk trim at the top also got a yellow undercoat, as did the cork.

Once the previous coat was dry, I washed a mixture of W&N Permanent Rose and QOR Pyrrole Red over all the red fabric, being careful around the highlights, and dropping some of my purple mixture in certain areas while the red was still wet. The purple established the shadow areas in the fabric.

After everything was dry -and being very gentle with the brushI applied a second wash of my Perm. Rose and Pyrrole Red mixture to the red areas, -and here you can really see the difference it makes one more layer of paint! Compare the right to the left side. Quite a difference, right? The tree trunk also got another darkening purple-mixture layer, and the yellow silk trim got a wet-on-wet gradation to darker, warmer yellow. I believe I used Burnt Sienna in the transition. The jar needed to get its shadows done before I could work on the blue pattern, so I painted it with a graded purplish mixture, softening the right edge with clean water. For the red reflections in the bottom area of the jar -from the cloth- I applied a light wash of Permanent Rose and Scarlet Lake over most of the shadow once that first layer had dried. I also deposited the first layer of the shadow on the red cloth behind the jar. I didn’t want to make it as dark as in the reference photo because it was going to catch the eye too much.

32

I painted the design in the jar carefully, paying attention to the value changes in the shadow area of the jar. The blue design turned almost black in the shadow. I worked on most flowers wet-on-wet and gave them a second coat after the first layer dried. I also gave the final layer to the elongated leaves on the right side, paying attention to the value changes in the colors, so they would look shiny.

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

The day I set up my props and took the reference photo, I didn’t realize that I had a just plain red cloth with no flower designs on the top right section. It had been bothering me but I chose to wait until I had the rest of the painting finished to make a decision about that section. So I finished all the bottom half of the painting first, making sure all the red areas matched well in color before tackling the top. That helped me to see that, obviously, I needed to add some flowers or leaves in the top right section.

Painting the top background was another big step. I was terrified, thinking that I was going to mess up the whole painting if I didn’t get a clean, flawless wash. I proceeded very carefully. First I prepared 2 large containers of a purple grey color (Perm. Rose + Cobalt Blue + Burnt Sienna), one more watery than the other. Using my size 14 mop, I wetted the whole area evenly with totally clean water, making sure not to go over the edges of the cloth or jar. Inverting the painting, I tilted it slightly and started depositing the lighter grey next to the cloth/jar edges. I worked fast, going for more paint every 2 inches or so. Halfway up to the top edge of the painting, I switched to the darker grey paint. At this point, all the grey areas were still fully wet and shiny and I was able to tilt the painting right and left and let the paint slide and disperse to settle in a smooth wash.Once the grey background was completely dry, I started inventing some flowers and leaves for the right top cloth section, trying to keep the balance with highlights and shadows as well. But I wasn’t satisfied just yet.

33

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

I left the painting resting for a couple weeks and then added small details here and there in the flowers, creating the impression of stitches. I also darkened the design in the jar to create more volume and added deeper shadows in that top right area to match the values of other shadows in other areas of the cloth. I could have continued fiddling with the painting even more but I finally took a look at it and called it done.

wild ” I my work are more on colours, variety of colours used in one canvas. As I feel colours plays important role in once life. A colourful lion or a real picture of lion has one message to give that its lion - but if you look carefully , colourful lion will give you positive vibes then t real picture of lion. positive and negative in creating a painting is very important. I give more focus on positive colours.”Sapna Trivedi Apart from painting , She is a graphic designer too.She works using graphic software - Photoshop, CorelDraw, Illustration and Indesign. She is also presently studying vfx course. Now a days she is into creating her own comic strips. She believes role of an artist depends on the personality of her. An artist can lead, follow, uplift with their work. art of an artist is a reflection or extension of her. An artist creates a positive environment through her painting. An artist see things in a totally different way. They challenge the boundaries of rules, society and imagination.

Talking about the current trends and socio political situations around she continues “Artists are those few people who have a need to express themselves. They are neither afraid nor hindered by the political climate even if means that certain powerful elements would be constantly harassing them. An artist’s need to express himself becomes ever more urgent once he feels that his artistic freedom is in danger. Art and social change are complementary to each other. One is the heart, the other is the lungs. They both breathe life into the world. One can tell the trends of the times by just simply looking out of the window and seeing the art before their very eyes. Or, march down to their local pub and savour the beats of the music. It is this simple to appreciate art and be in the know of changes in society.

The principle of design refers to the quality of wholeness or oneness that is achieved through the effective use of art elements and principle of design. Often it is realized through the deliberate or intuitive balancing of harmony and variety. However, this balance does not have to be of equal proportions harmony might outweigh variety, or variety might outweigh harmony. Harmony aids efforts to blend pictoral parts together to form a whole. Variety adds visual interest to this unified whole.Sapna Trivedi tries to bring in the balance with the usage of different color combinations and technique.

“One Advise to all the upcoming artists is to never ever give up. Be confident, stand up with the crown of a known artist and say that what you are and what your creativity is all about. Create the work that you like and not that world likes. Satisfaction will keep your motivation in your whole journey of art!

J A Y A B A K S H I She has developed her own style and works in all possible mediums like water, oil, acrylic, mixed media, pencil etc. Jaya’s art doesn’t limit here it extends to craft work like wedding boxes, candles, trays, platters etc. all hand crafted. She held up exhibitions as well as participated and has won several awards. She also believes in working for a noble cause. For her art is a celebration, a journey made by the artist to enjoy the creative process. She says “Art and craft are entirely human creations. They need human excellence..passion..and love to be brought forth .As an artist and a craftsman it is difficult to say that craft requires no emotion, and is only an acquired skill. Also it is false to say that art comes from a person’s innate talent and comes from heart as generally many people feel. 42

J

Jaya Bakshi is a highly imaginative

artist, Born in Karwar, beautiful stretch bordering Goa and Karnataka ,she grew up in a loving atmosphere, watching many artists around. Encouraged by her family and enthused by the teachers and friends increased her love for art which was a blessing naturally.Although she did not have any technical knowledge in fine art inspite of being a commerce graduate, the love for art did not fall down rather it grew more when she did fashion designing. Her passion for art and motivation by her daughter finally gave her the name of an artist. This self-taught award winning artist has got a unique style of working, a wonderful mix of glorious colors and brush strokes, craft combined a combination of talents. She has a natural way of working which gives her pleasure.

The truth is that they are the same . A peice of craftsmanship could be a peice of art . I feel my peices have both .Art is communication of an idea or an emotion while craft is the physical manipulation of material. They are not mutually exclusive .Art and craft for me are one in the same .. both involve emotion, both involve passion, both involve skill, both attract people, both need talent, and the heart and soul that go into creating it . It is again a vast field where I am involved in a part of it ... like creating candles ..platters..photo frames .. designing wine bottles.. mason jars .. mirrors.. trays .. flower pots.. real dry flower arrangements etc all exclusively hand crafted.”

DECORATIVE ART

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

Jaya Bakshi was passionate about art since childhood but since she was born and brought up in a business family and could not pursue it .As art was inside it was triggering her now and then finally she took it as a profession since the year 2012.Though a graduate in fashion designing, she finally loved taking up childhood passion as a profession,an interesting fact of her life. She says “ An Artist is one who can express feelings without speaking. So an artist plays a very important role in the society. The role of an artist plays in society is largely dependent on the personality of the artist and the artist’s chosen subject matter .An Artist can lead, follow, uplift or provoke with their art work, art is often a reflection or extension of personality”.

Decorative Art or crafts are basically concerned with the design and manufacture of beautiful objects that are also functional. Like Candle making with designs on cermaics or pottery . Candles initially were used merely as a source of light They came in standard sizes and shapes. Now candlemaking is an art form and candles have become decorative works of art that come in an infinite variety of shapes, sizes, colors & fragrances. They are generally used to create a peaceful, romantic ambiance and are treasured for their relaxing effect. Candles have recently become a big part of home decor and this has encouraged the development of new techniques and materials. 43

Jaya Bakshi is involved in craft work too like she makes handmade mirrors, holders, hangings, platters, frames, candle stands etc.Her Decorative candles or cermic glasses or bottles are created with unique design using various objects and materials .They look gorgeous in the interiors and create a serene and beautiful effect in the atmosphere of the interiors .

Regarding marketing of her products ,She says “It didn’t happen overnight, life as an aspiring artist is an endless sea of precarious arrangements, commercial demands, and cutthroat competitiveness .but I have been lucky to have friends who helped me in exhibiting and selling my work”.

“People who are creative can make art wherever they are, I don’t believe in a particular kind of economy, culture, context or a unique space or have specific items to make art”She adds!

SHORT STORY SWETA PARMAR

Artists. Live Magazine

She shares with us a short beautiful story “Joyce”apart from being a contributing author of her poetry.

S

Sweta Parmar is a published Author / Writer who was born in April ‘1976’ at the pink city of Rajasthan in

India in a family where her father was a sportsperson and mother was a Teacher. She always had a keen interest in writing since her childhood but no one noticed. She was never a bright student but a capable and keen learner. In school days she was in Rajasthan state team of basketball and had won many awards in folk and Kathak dance as well as music and singing. But she left every extracurricular activity in her high school as she wanted to be in the medical field and wanted to become a doctor and wanted to serve in Army but though she got selected due to some reasons couldn’t join and changed her stream to English literature. After completing her college education she got married and landed in Delhi and became a skilled homemaker. She was blessed with a beautiful daughter soon But she didn’t stop studying and continued her education from Rajasthan and M.D.University. Apart from being a classical Kathak dancer her talent of carving down her spontaneous thoughts inspired her to pen down her feelings which later on created books published by Prabhat Prakashan and ocean books. And her extemporaneous mentation hypnotized the readers. Though she denies her authority on her penned creations as a monopoly but says its Almighty’s blessing on her. She never thought of becoming a writer but her friend ‘Barbara Franzen’, her daughter ‘Yoshimi’ and her mother motivated her to move a step forward as they believe she has that special something in writing which gives goosebumps and approach one’s heart.Though She believes that life and relationships have countless colours and she can connect through her word to people and spread optimism and positivity from her gathered memories of her penning since years.

JOYCE! By Sweta Parmar She was not only very beautiful but a girl with a strange attitude or behaviour. Her perception about life is totally different from all. She had created a different world beyond every lie, fable, texture and double life. Everybody seemed to be honest with her as she herself was very honest. Actually, it was that she used to see every person according to her perceptions and thoughts. According to her, the world is a very beautiful platform to live our life and empower oneself. The naive girl was unaware of the reality of this world. Everything seemed to be good and true to her. She is a living statue of amazement and enthusiasm with passion and positivity, who spread happiness and just happiness everywhere. “Joyce” mom was calling. “Joyce” Yes! This is her name. She is exactly like her name sounds... full of happiness n joy. But as we all know that all days are not the same. So for How long did the secret of this world remain hidden from her and how long she simply won and live according to her own perceptions. After all, she was a resident of this world only. So... one day, suddenly everything changed just by......a sentence. On that day It was raining too heavily. Joyce was dancing, singing, and it seemed as if she wants to reconcile every drop; After all, she was the one who’s on top in all the fields and that day was very special for her as she came first in the whole state, everyone’s praising her singing and dancing, she was an amazing dancer. Her expressions were so live to get the moves accordingly as if the eyes were speaking. She possesses the sweetest smile and never had any frown on her face of irritation or disguise. Suddenly she heard again that her Mother was calling her - “Joyce! Joyce!

W & Art

Where are you sweety? Come down, it’s raining heavily, The weather is not right, come down.” But she was just enjoying the moment, though.......the moment was taking shape in a way Somehow that none can think of such a change..........

Joyce and her mother checked and detected that she has high fever, but Joyce is an angel so she happily served all night sitting near her. But The trouble in her smile was visible in the folds of his forehead today. The old lady was healed till morning by the medicines which Joyce’s father gave. The lady called everyone and blessed and after thanksgiving she said, “Now I should go.”

Artists. Live Magazine

After all of called up and shouts her mother came to the terrace to call Joyce who’s totally Drained n soaked in the water, after looking at her mom she gave a sweet smile to her and her mom patted a sweet loving slap on her cheeks and said:-”You have grown up now, you should understand this now. Come on now as your father is about to come.” And ..... Joyce ... started to run downstairs and wanted to change before her father would arrive. Her Mother gave her a new salwar kameez of her favourite yellow colour. She was looking very cute and innocent. Only when they heard a knock on the door. Perhaps due to bad weather, the “bell” was not working. Joyce opened the door and saw an old woman was standing at the door. It seemed that she might be from a nice family by her dressing and language “Sweetheart, I forgot the way. I am very thirsty. Can I get a glass of water please!”

Joyce invited her inside the house and as soon as she sat on the sofa she became unconscious. Joyce was so frightened, she did not understand what happened suddenly. She called upon her mother. Her Father was a doctor but at that time he was not at home.

Joyce took out the car to drop her and drove the car on her stated path. As Joyce is a bubbly girl ..The stories of her stories were not ending and the elderly was constantly admiring her quietly, just with a smile listening everything. Suddenly she asked to stop the car and said “I am home now” Joyce saw at the place and got screwed in confusion. “Do you live here?”

... but she smiled and walked in and gave her a loving smiling wave full blessing and wished that she always be with full of such a life. But Joyce did not understand that why so decent, elite woman live here? In The big letters it was written there:-”Stella Carter old age home” Joyce stood outside looking at that board to see the elderly going away, until she disappeared from sight. 49

W & Art Artists. Live Magazine

Joyce was lost and saved herself twice that day to met with an accident, her laughter was lost somewhere. After She reached home, she did not eat anything and did not talk to anyone, then suddenly she just stopped thinking and made an exit from in her room. Then she picked up her mother’s scooty and rode it slowly as it’s raining and again she rode towards the same old age.

She Parked the scooty and ran inside. It was quite peaceful and lot of elderly people there. Joyce was shocked after looking at the harsh reality of this world which came in front of her. Everyone who lived there had children, but now no one needed those strong pillars. All were so busy in their own life that it hardly matters to them to look after there parents. The truth is that today, due to there children they are here and it’s disgusting at the peak ... Joyce didn’t understand how could children leave there parents like that and where are they? Though all elderly people are Being happy with this truth of life today, But Joyce ... is not happy. This incident and reality Transformed her from an unarmed innocent girl to became a serious adult. She took a decision. She knew it was difficult but not impossible. She reached home and talked to her parents. At the beginning it was hard to believe and make them understand but later on all of them agreed ro what Joyce wants. Now Joyce is feeling good with so many grandparents ..

50

All the relations were together here. Firstly, Joyce made them believe in their hearts that they believe in them with their heart. She fulfilled their wishes, spend time with them, made food according to their choices, played with them around, told stories to everyone. She had become the angelic creature for all. Everyone used to love her a lot. She was very sure about them now that they understand and trust her . So one day Joyce thought that, the right time has come now to make the most of the things she was thinking about and to made them realise their calibre. That evening when all were sitting together, She made an announcement that she wants everyone should teach something according to their choice, listening that most of the elderly people said:- “ it’s tough” but she was adamant and asked them:- “You all should be with me as I have to fulfil my dream and this is my dream to see you all of you be independent and self confident.”

Not Everyone gladly want to know but she gladly told everyone when they told that she is behaving like a child, it was impossible, but their fairy “Joyce”was so stubborn that at the end everyone got ready to obey her and Joyce was rejoiced. Joyce was so Pleased with everyone that she wants they should teach their own skills and show the world that if there is hope and encouragement, then anything can happen at any age.

She wanted to show to the people who have left them here as worthless should know and understand that how successful and priceless they were, And with their teachings the young generation would get the shadow of luck, and the price is only the true dedication to learn. And it was decided that the old age home got the name “Stella Carter Art Center” Where all their talents would be taught to the new generation. Some were proficient in music, some in painting, some in handicraft, some in cooking, some In any writing and some in teaching. Students are arriving from all the places and the old age home was established into the “Art Center”. There was only one elderly person to whom her grandson used to come to meet. One day, she gladly said that her grandson wants her to become their daughter-in-law. Joyce was stunned and shy at the same time . maybe because she also liked the young man. Her silence made the elderly lady to understand what she wants and she told “Ashley” her grandchild to tell his mother ‘n’ dad and make sure that they are happily ready to go to Joyce’s home with them. When everyone came to Joyce’s house , Joyce was extremely surprised to know that the elderly woman with whom she had been for so long, she is the same “Stella Carter”.By whose name the old age hone which is then an art center, which was opened by her late husband in her name. Joyce was asked by Ashley for some time to talk alone. She wanted to know from “Ashley” that why He let his grandmaa to go to the old age home. But When she came to know the truth, tears flooded with happiness, but it was also proud moment for her that she was living in the shade of such a great person.

W & Art How big heart she had that she decided to spend her life in her husband’s old age home And despite being a boss, she was living with them as if she was one of them. Joyce was soon married to Ashley and she went in the new house. She very soon caught attention and love of the whole family. Her art center, along with Stella Carter, had been established in many places and was touching new heights. So many awards had come to their center, which enhanced the confidence of every elderly person.

Slowly the time was passed and Joyce and Ashley had three daughters. By passing time the daughters grew up and were soon settled. Now Joyce was alone, Ashley had also gone to where grandma has gone. And Now she was also part of the same art center.

Now , instead of Stella Carter, she was following the impression of her post and she was teaching dance and singing to the new generation. Now Joyce is replica of Stella Carter . She was standing in front of the statue of The ... Stella Carter and Ashley thanking the person who taught her the meaning of life and taught to live happily with confidence. “Joyce mami” .... she heard that someone had called up her name . joyous turned back and saw, her daughter was standing with her daughter and the name was ........ Radiance. She Gladly smiled and thanked almighty to made her a complete woman. Author Sweta Parmar 51

“My Starving” It is my starving in the barren lands In search of springy turf, To rest my gashed heels, Bleeding profusely.. I am screaming, but no sound, Questing for cure, but not found.. Tears dribbling down the cheeks And dampening the deserted soul.. Lost like a drop in the entire ocean, Trapped in the oyster, Like a dreamy pearl... It nips, like I am walking on tines all around I can’t even express, How much I miss you..

Though I smile, and assure you Yeah I am alright, But deep there, my heart aches.. Falling apart into bits and pieces.. I am so brave to guard this world But somewhere I need you To hold my hand Fix my heart and be my saviour…. It’s a hallucination, Are you still there? Waiting for me… Or you are gone Like sun slides down horizon With all its gleam and shine.. Shweta Chaturvedi

I don’t know, What attracts me to you, Why I want to expand my yearnings, Why I fear that last adieu... You to me is the best of my symphonies, Every time my soul goes inert, To give me sentience, You strike on the keys... You are a hope or a desire, Oh love, oh friend! You have incarnated here to inspire..

I can see the crescent moon rising afar In the midst of softly moving clouds, I can descry my favorite star... Glory of the moment that all stars extol Wind plays a serenade, To my lonesome soul.. Listening to rustle of the leaves on the streets My desires start flowing in veins, On fast unturned beats.. Heart wanders on a forbidden memory lane Memories those don’t fade And always remain.. PAINTINGS LAURA MORRISON

L

Laura Morrison is a young versatile artist from Canada and is recently married. She calls the

Kootenays her home for seven years. Originally from Sparwood B.C, she moved to Kamloops B.C when she was 10 but had always known that she would somehow make it back to the mountains. Her love for the mountains and the amazing scenery within B.C always manages to make it into her artwork. She graduated from Thompson River’s University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a focus in painting. For her graduating exhibition, she worked through a series of paintings that took relationships with technology and nature and found a way to make them work together as one. She took organisms like cancer cells and extreme close-ups of other organic items like leaves and moss and abstracted them into works where the materials and process she used outweighed the actual imagery. After school, she spent some time working on smaller process-based abstract pieces. She put the focus on what happens during the making of the works and the reactions between solvents, oils and the pigments themselves. This was a good way to let go of control since the works almost never come out looking the way you left them when they were dry.

56

An ardent lover of nature.she draws her inspiration from the surroundings. She lives in a beautiful country and the landscapes here are a feast for her eyes. She tries to paint on the spot.especially how different types of light, atmosphere, and weather affect the visual perception. She studies this concept by painting the same subject, usually very simple, in varying times of day and types of weather and in different seasons.

“I’ve been drawing and coloring for as long as I can remember. My first sketchbook was given to me at the age of 6. I loved to draw, paint rocks and create anything I could. Art is a form of self-expression and for me, it has always been part of my life. Art gives a unique perspective to the world through the artist’s eyes, like an alternate reality”She says.

She also is inspired by all kinds of artists, from landscape to abstract. Art to her is so varied and so beautiful that she is drawn to all kinds. A few artists who inspired her are Heather Pant, a fellow Canadian landscape artist who does absolutely stunning landscapes with bold colours and incredible movements. A brilliant artist who she is inspired by is Jana Milne, another Canadian artist.

“I’m always trying to challenge myself with my work so that I’m continuously growing and evolving. An obstacle I face locally is trying to show my work. We have annual art walks each summer in the three surrounding towns, I’ve had my work featured in two of them in the last few years. I hope to have some of my new stuff featured in this year’s upcoming walk. There aren’t a lot of places to show my work other than the few shows they offer each year. I rely mostly on my features online, on my website and through word of mouth”. Mostly I’ve been working in acrylics simply due to convenience. I don’t have the proper ventilation in my studio to work in oils exclusively. I love working in all paint mediums though. As of lately I’ve really been enjoying working in watercolours” Laura Morrison adds. 58

She loves photography, writing, and at times, sketching. She is also an avid colour addict, like a kid with their colouring booksShe finds it’s such a great way to clear mind and stay creative. talking about her working style and choosing landscapes as the subject ,she adds more saying”Over the years I have grown to call my work vivid landscapes. All of my pieces are bold and brightly colored, often much brighter than the original photo I use as a reference. My painting style is evolving in each piece I do. I would describe my work as painterly as I’ve not focused on the details so much as the brush strokes I use to create lines and values.”

Through the careful placement of repeated art elements Laura Morrison invites the viewer’s eye to glide smoothly from one to the next element or object. Harmony aids efforts to blend pictoral parts together to form a whole. color sensibility and visual iconography which would lend itself to striking combinations and juxtapositions. The vibrant compostions are feast to the eye ,as they wander all over the canvas to find the mystery beyond the painting and the beautiful presentation of the landscapes of nature around the world.

She uses mixed media, acrylic and oil painting, to enhance the visual and textural aspects of the paintings. She paints daily and involves herself in various art related activities. 60

W & Art Pradnya Shah is inspired by great Artist S.H Raza. She Says”Artist S.H.Raza. Inspires me.

Artist S.H.Raza abandoned the expressionistic landscape for a geometric abstraction and the ‘Bindu’. Raza perceives the Bindu as the center of creation and existence progressing towards forms and color as well as energy, sound, space and time. Raza’s work is his own inner experience and involvement with the mysteries of nature and form which is expressed in color, line, space, and light. In the year 1995 Pradnya Shah completed herB.F.A.Then started her job in advertising company,as a multimedia designer, and her journey as an Artist started. She believes art to be a very powerful form of a self-expression. Her likings include music, literature, and historical research and she believes Art offers boundless opportunities for creativity and represents the pinnacle of human.

She believes in combining different styles of art which lead to a different spin on reality and perception. Composite art, therefore, containing many layers of meaning. By combining a variety of imagery, and/or different styles of art, it is possible to forge creative connections between otherwise disparate ideas or themes. Pradnya Shah mostly likes to paint on Kathak dance form and calls it“ Nigar.’’ Colour is one of the most important elements of a painting. It is what we tend to notice first and can help convey the depth, form, and emotion in a painting. Understanding how color works and which colors go well together can make a big difference in a painting. While this can be useful in creating a unified body of work and having people recognize our paintings, using the same color palette can also become boring. Other times we may be having trouble figuring out the right color for a certain area of a painting, trying different colors only to have to wipe them off or paint over them.Pradnya Shah clarifies that. 61

Pradnya Shah says”Teaching workshops and

making art in public brings me closer to people, brings people closer to art, and is great advertising for your art as well as for future workshops and shows. Reluctance and intimidations that many people have around art often evaporate once they actually see how it’s created and are able to interact firsthand with artists while they’re making or teaching others how to make it. And we all know that the more people who feel good about knowing artists, being artistic, and owning art, the more we all benefit. 62

She conducts painting workshops for all ages in our society .The workshop’s main objective is to teach artists how to see and paint with more confidence, to learn how to create wonderfully energized plain air paintings which capture the unique light and atmosphere the artists envisioned from the moment of their inspiration. Each day will include a demo, short lecture, AM painting scene, PM painting scene, solid individual guidance and valuable critiques, group critique optional. Drawing, Composition, Value, Color, Edges and Paint and Surface Manipulation are covered.
