Irene Hewitt visits the National Rally to find out what it's all about

As Secretary of the N. Ireland and Ireland Groups, I had never experienced the Club's National Rally, so, eager to find out more we booked our place.

Twelve vans from our Group, including our own Chairman David Kyle-Ewing, travelled to England. On arriving at the Malvern Showground we were greeted by the Marshalls, who directed us to our pitches where our own Group Marshals, Agnes and Tom Adair, were waiting expectantly.

After getting settled we took a walk to get our bearings. We were lucky enough to be parked close to the venue which provided excellent entertainment every evening; from bands to a ventriloquist, and even a man dressed in Lederhosen who had us all singing along.

During the day, for those who had not booked trips, there were craft classes, dog shows and craft fairs. Our Tombola stall raised £103 for the Chairman’s Charity.

Obituaries

Morriss Outen

Long-standing member of the Kent Group, Morriss Outen, died in hospital after a short and unexpected illness on Saturday 11 February. I am his wife Jean, and I'm trying to continue camping

At the start of the rally our well dressed team paraded our new banner, and again at the end when the song 'best of friends' was sung; good with the Club. He leaves a son, a daughter and two grandsons. Needless to say we are all devastated.

Dave Hambleton

It is with sadness we announce the passing of very long standing member, Dave Hambleton, of the Essex Group. We are sending friendships were made and those no longer with us remembered. thoughts to his family and friends.

Afterwards our Group had a leaving BBQ, which I was told was a tradition – the craic was great!

My first National over, we took our leave the next morning, to all go our separate ways. I'm sure this will not be our last National and I would certainly encourage other members to go. A great experience and great memories!

Correction

In the July magazine under Obituaries I put one in for Janet Hill. This should have read Janet Scott. I apologise to Paul and the family for this error.
