THE NEW FACE OF FASHION GROUP INTERNATIONAL
In 1928, seventeen remarkable women gathered in New York City to discuss how to support and create community as women executives in fashion at a time when women were underrepresented. That pivotal meeting proved to be the start of a visionary new organization: Fashion Group International (FGI). The gathering and charters included: Eleanor Roosevelt, later First Lady; Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edna Woolman Chase, cosmetics magnate Helena Rubenstein; costume designer Edith Head; and other icons who spoke of the pressing need to support the American fashion business and the women behind it.

Their daring vision of a female-driven, female-led industry forum predated mainstream women’s empowerment movements by decades.
Decades on, FGI ultimately opened its membership to all genders and FG’s global headquarters remains in New York City but has grown exponentially with 26 chapters worldwide and a roster of over 5,000 members.
Women have led FGI from its inception, including Maryanne Grisz, who became FGI President and CEO in 2019. Under Grisz’ leadership, Fashion Group International has elevated its digital presence and partners, leads new conversations and programs in the inclusion space, recognizes collaborative creative forms such as music, art and film influencing fashion and has initiated important commentary around gender, mentorship and how to support emerging brands.
“FGI honors its legacy”, Grisz says, “by continuing to support fashion professionals at every level, from students and startups to seasoned professionals. Our goal is to spark creativity, fuel innovation, and advance the business of fashion by providing access to thought-leaders, education, and connection.”
