Charles Wyatt Warren (1908 - 1993) Warren spent the majority of his life in Caernarfon in the north of Wales, where he attended the local grammar school before going on to further his studies at London University. He then went on to dedicate 36 years of his life as a civil servant at Caernarfonshire County Council. Although never painting full-time, he was an entirely self-taught painter and an enthusiastic supporter of the arts in Northern Wales. Warren predominantely painted North Wales in oils, thickly applying the impasto onto the board. His paint was applied sharply and crisply, often with a generous variety of colour tonality. His subject matter was often Snowdonia and its fresh water lakes, a flowing Welsh river, or the Anglesey coast. Rarely would there be a figure in his works, to him it was all about the natural landscape. Despite being 10 years his junior, the noted Welsh painter Sir Kyffin Williams was both a mentor and influence on Warren and later became a friend too. Williams had studied at the prestigious and progressive Slade School during the 1940s and introduced Warren to the techniques and ideas he had learnt from his teachers and fellow students. Warren exhibited regularly, including at the Royal Cambrian Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils. 3
