Childhood Memories
Memories Include:
Memories Include:
This is a picture of my oldest brother, Dr. James Atkins and I, at Clarks Hill playing while my daddy chilled on the boat. For as long as I can remember my parents took us to Ridge Rd. at Clarks Hill. My dad loved boats, cars and the lake. Eventually we got a camper and made many wonderful family memories. During my childhood is where I started my love for boats and the lake and as an adult, nothing has changed. I still love the peaceful feeling of being on the water and surrounded by Gods beautiful creations! I have raised my children up camping, boating, and teaching them to love nature. There is nothing like quality family time at the lake!
I can remember when this picture was taken, I was so happy it was a female photographer, so I had the biggest smile ever! It was difficult to get me to smile for a photo because most of the time it was a male photographer and I can remember being so scared of a man with any type of equipment! I am sure it was because I was very sickly and always at the doctor’s office with a male doctor! My brother always looked out for me, he was always so smart. I have always looked up to him and wanted to be just like him and yes, I wore the dresses with the pig tales but I was such a tom boy!

Comments from Planning and Development: Did you know that the SPLOST dollars we spend today are in some ways tied to the Park Master Plan, and the comments you may have provided during that process, completed in 2016? That is the power of planning – seek input, set the best course of action, and follow through with implementation. Over time, changes to the plan may occur, and a few of the projects may change in large or small ways. This is why planning is an iterative, or continually refreshing process, and occurs in some form or fashion every year. Currently, Augusta Planning Department is working on an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan. This is the biggest plan produced by the City, and sets the direction and vision for the coming five to ten years. As a part of this City-wide effort, the Recreation and Parks Department is writing a chapter about the programs and facilities we maintain, and the direction we plan to grow in the coming years. We are referencing existing plans, such as the Parks Master Plan, the Public Art Master Plan, and the Visitor Bureau’s Destination Blueprint plan. This planning process will involve a series of public comment opportunities, to begin later this year, so stay tuned!

We would like to Congratulate the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office—Criminal Investigation Division on a job well done. Thanks to all the other Departments that participated in making this a fun successful event. THE
