Charter’s Student Government Has Big Year The Cherokee Charter Academy Student Government Association participated in multiple projects during the past school year to help the school and community at large. Activities included distributing goody bags to needy seniors and gift bags for troops overseas, and purchasing picnic tables for the school. The organization ended the school year by raising $361 for Angels Among Us Pet Rescue through a doughnut fundraiser.

New Boys’ Lacrosse, Baseball Coaches at Woodstock
The Woodstock High School boys’ lacrosse and baseball programs will be under new leadership next school year. Coach Russ Armistead will be the new head coach for the lacrosse program and the baseball program will be led by Coach Jeff Brown. Armistead has more than 10 years of high school and college coaching Russ Armistead Jeff Brown experience. He will also will add depth to school’s physical education department and football staff. Brown has served as the varsity baseball pitching coach for the past three seasons. After completing the interview process, Athletic Director Tonya Sebring said she and Principal Mark Smith realized the best fit as head coach for the baseball program was already on staff.
Scholarships Earned Through Community Service

The BridgeMill Sixes Service League (BSSL) awarded $1,500 scholarships each to two seniors who committed themselves to serving others in the community: Cherokee High School graduates Joshua Freeman and Luke Bundrum. The Lexine Harper Community Service Textbook Scholarship is awarded for community service and is dedicated to the memory of BSSL member Lexine Harper.
Outstanding Senior Athletes Recognized The Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame recognized a male and a female Outstanding High School Senior Athlete from each school at its annual banquet. Schools Honored by the Governor Two Cherokee County schools have been honored by Gov. Nathan Deal for making academic gains. Sequoyah High School received a Gold Award, one of only 37 schools in the state to do so. Woodstock Middle School received a Bronze Award for greatest gains. To receive a Greatest Gains Award, a school must earn a three-year average CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) Progress Score that ranks in at least the 93rd percentile. Only 127 schools in the state received a Greatest Gains Award.
