Staff who reached a milestone of 10, 20, 25 or 35 years of service at Family and Children´s Services of Renfrew County (FCSRC) were honoured by their fellow colleagues in a ceremony full of fellowship, anecdotes and appreciation for their long term work in the organization. At the ceremony in January, 11 members of FCSRC were congratulated for their commitment to their work and received accolades from another staff member highlighting their contributions to the community, as well as the unique characteristics that make them valuable and important for the service delivery: commitment, inclusiveness, imagination, ability to keep calm in difficult situations, creativity and sense of humor, among others, where the features most mentioned during the meeting. One of the celebrated was manager of developmental services, Marianne Taylor, for her 35 years of work. Taylor, a graduate in Social Science at the University of Ottawa, started at 1981 as an adult protection service worker, before FCSRC evolved into a multi-services agency. She has, therefore, seen many changes during the years.

“When I started working it was legal to pay women less for the same job and there was no maternity leave. Today we have equal opportunities,” she said. Taylor added that the paradigm of work with vulnerable people has also changed for the better. Another member of the staff with a long history in service is Ann Hubert, an administrative assistant who was recognized for her 25 years of work. She started at the agency as a part-time receptionist and since then she had evolved into recruiting foster parents and adoption disclosure. “I really love my job. At FCSRC everyone I work with is a friend, from the bottom to the top,” said Hubert. Susan Kirk, supervisor of behaviour and speech, was also recognized for her 25 years of work, while resource worker Rhonda Summers celebrated 20 years at FCSRC. Tracey Laichalk from school services, behaviour consultants Lainey McCaffrey and Sarah McGrath-Swant, resource worker Cynthia Racine, supervisor of the adolescent team Michael Dalton, Steven West from school services and adoption worker Sabina Clemmer were all recognized for their 10 years of service at FCSRC.
