Eager to learn new things: Co-op Michaela Lapierre Co-op student

EMC Lifestyle- My name is Michaela Lapierre. I am in Grade 11 at Arnprior District High School doing co-op at the Arnprior Chronicle-Guide. I will be here until June 18, 2012 to let readers know what is going on at the school. Almost every day I will be going up to the newspaper to learn new things. Whatever I learn or do, I have to go back to the school and write what I did into a log so that my teacher, Shirley Stevenson, knows I am learning and doing things. The main reason I am doing my co-op position at The Arnprior Chronicle-Guide is because I would like to learn how to properly take photos. I would also like to learn how to write stories that go along with the photos. By the end of this semester, I hope to know a lot more about photography and journalism then I do now.

Although I don’t have many hobbies or interests I do enjoy a couple of things. I enjoy hanging out with friends, baking, swimming, basketball, volleyball and of course, photography and journalism. When I am not doing any of these things, I am relaxing at home and watching movies. In summer 2011, I bought myself a new camera and started taking a couple pictures with it. After a bit, I realized the pictures the camera took weren’t the best. I am hoping to start saving up this coming summer to buy myself a new and better camera. If I do happen to buy a new camera, I will know how to take pictures and write stories because of the help from the co-op position. Before I thought about photojournalism, I was going to try to get a co-op position with

Sheltered by our warm parkas and warm houses, humans are little more than inconvenienced when the mercury drops below 0°C but for cold-blooded animals winter presents severe challenges. Dr. Ken Storey will present a chilling tale on the lives of these animals and how they survive the cold. Dr. Storey is a Professor of Biochemistry and holds the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Physiology at Carleton University in Ottawa.
