KAYLA REINERT AND DON GOUGEON Youth Corner

The heat was here awhile ago, but now school is out, camps have started and we can officially say that summer is here! Our Go Girls camp is wrapping up and nine girls are having a great time with counsellors Shay Klimpel, Robin Reinert and Jenn McNulty. We had a great time at White Lake Marina, and all of the girls give a special thank you to Andra and the rest of the staff at the centre for letting us go out on the pontoon boat. Want to travel the world in five days? Then join our Amazing Race Camp! Our supervised camp will travel from Italy to Mexico, from China to Australia, among many other places in the span of Monday, July 11 to July 15 without leaving the town of Arnprior. The only time we do pack it up is when we head to Calypso for our trip Wednesday. The cost for Amazing Race camp (yepname comes from the show, so expect detours, road blocks and more) is $199 and includes lunch and the trip. Our camps are geared towards participants ages 8-14. Registration is due by noon Sunday. Want to sign up for just the trip? That’s ok too, Take advantage of our special pricing and sign up any participants 9 and older for only $25. Thanks to the Ministry of Health Pro-

motion and Sport, our busing is paid for, so we can offer the discounted entrance rate. With our Calypso trip there are many different options, which can be confusing. Camp Wanago is coming on another bus, so children and youth can register for day trip only through Camp Wanago for $40. When you register through Camp Wanago through the camp or Day trip only as well as our Amazing Race Camp, then you will have direct supervised groups throughout the day. If you register (only available to those 9 and older) through the Youth Programs Calypso Bus trip, then it is more of a transportation service. There will be supervisors on site, but the youth will be able to go on the slides and use the park without a direct supervisor. Youth will be expected to check in at lunchtime and then be ready for the bus at the end of the day. So many options to make the best of your day. More great news! We have extended the number of participants in the Survivor Camp. We had a great response and we have lots of interest so when we filled up we co-ordinated more staff and can now take more registrations. Don’t be disappointed for the second time, register soon. Our special Survivor trip is to the extreme outback of Chutes Colongue for some zip lining. Exciting! Check out next week for more Survivor

AIR CADET AWARDS Photo by John Carter

Among the award winners at the 653 Champlain Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force Cadets 54th annual review and inspection June 5, from left, are LAC Matthew Desjardins of Braeside, named best first-year cadet; Warrant Officer first class Samantha Cremer of Dunrobin, Sword of Honour and Ninety-Nines Canadian Award in Aviation; and Flight Corporal Garnet Gladwin of Pakenham, best non-commissioned officer.

Please find me a home Frank # 3967 Poor Frank had a pretty rough life before coming to the shelter. The three-year-old is a stray cat who was never claimed. He is missing both ears, which was caused from frost bite. He was pretty beaten up when first brought in, yet this hasn’t affected his personality. Frank is a sweet cat who gets along well with other cats and just loves attention. He is an active, intelligent, sweet kitty that deserves to find a great home where he will be treated with kindness for the rest of his life.

Do you have room in your home and heart for this happy-go-lucky little dog? Oliver is a two-year-old neutered Jack Russell/Collie mix who was brought in as a stray and never claimed. Oliver is energetic and active and enjoys going for long walks. He knows a few basic commands but would benefit from more training. Oliver is partially housebroken and would benefit from a regular routine. He gets along with most other dogs and seems respectful of cats. He is very intelligent and is a quick learner. He would be good with children over ten.

Supplies the shelter needs : dry and canned kitten food, rawhides and chewies for dogs, paper towels and bleach.

You can call the Arnprior and District Humane Society at 613-623-0916 between noon and 5 p.m Monday to Saturday or visit www.arnpriorhumanesociety.ca
