WHEN THINGS GET CHILLY WITH autumn approaching we will soon say goodbye to hot summer days and be looking in the back of the cupboard for a coat and scarf. As fashionable as scarves may be, it should only be the weather that calls for this dress wear and not the temperature of your workplace. When a sudden, unexpected (metaphorically speaking) arctic blast rips though your work environment what do you do? At Focus HR, we believe what you need to do is get really good at having powerful, robust discussions. So often people shy away from conflict as it is viewed as negative. I challenge all workplaces to look at conflict, when handled in the right way, as a highly effective way to attain the exceptional. For practical, down-to-earth advice on creating powerful culture, managing workplace behaviours and conflict mediation, phone us on 4765 3456, email to info@focushr.com.au or call in to the office at 277 Hume St. 18 | March 2018

STYLISH SEASON

DIGITAL LENSES

AUTUMN gives us an abundance of fashionable options, with the best in racewear seen at the Weetwood Fashions on the Field competition at Clifford Park Racecourse. The field has been on fire in recent years and as a qualified personal stylist and regular FOTF finalist, I am here to give you the inside scoop on what to wear. On April 7, fashion and racewear lovers will gather for the Weetwood, and as part of the Winter Carnival, appropriate seasonal racewear is a must. Custom millinery made from felt, wool, leather and feathers are ideal, with crowns, halos, boaters and structured headpieces expected to steal the show. Bell sleeves and modest hemlines are on trend – think midi’s, mermaid skirts and pencil skirts – in navy, plum, burgundy, forest green and traditional blacks, greys and red. For more fashion inspiration, see my blog at www.artofstyle.com.au or call 0408 406 065 for more information.

DIGITAL lenses are a type of lens almost unknown a few years ago. They have become more necessary as we, young and old, engage in the digital world more. All near tasks involve us focussing and converging our eyes for much longer periods, so tired, dry eyes and even a worsening of eyesight is possible. Spectacle and contact lenses have now been designed to allow us to do these tasks more comfortably and safely by reducing fatigue of the eye muscles. We can also use lens coatings developed to block out high energy blue light, which can help to reduce fatigue and protect certain cells in your retina. These coatings decrease the disturbance to your circadian rhythm which can affect sleep cycles. Ask us at Somerville Merrin Neilson Optometrists about the options now available in digital spectacle and contact lenses, or any other vision problems you have.
