News from Arlesey Methodist Chapel

Such a lot of mixed emotions as I write this, the day that Charles III was proclaimed King and only two days since we heard the news that Queen Elizabeth II had died. By the time that you read this, a whole set of other national events combining both mourning and celebration will already be a memory. It will have been an unsettling few weeks for many. And, of course, we were already unsettled by war, climate injustice, and cost of living. But in these past two days, I was struck by the way His Majesty was affected by the warmth and love that he felt from the crowds he had met, offering condolences and encouragement and affirmation. He expressed his thanks and stated how that love had enabled him to take up the role that was given him. I was also moved by the service of prayer and reflection held at St Paul’s Cathedral, especially as they spoke about our late Queen’s faith in Christ and the strength that gave her for her lifetime of service. These two, the love offered by others and love offered by God, particularly shown in Christ, are a bedrock in unsettling times. They are guiding lights. God help us to follow those guides and know their strength to do our duty and serve our communities in this new era. Graham
