Churchyard Tree Appeal

Last autumn we sadly had to close the churchyard for a few weeks, after a huge branch dropped during a storm. Fortunately, no one and no graves were damaged. However we decided that closure was necessary for everyone’s safety.

While closed, a complete survey of the trees in the churchyard was carried out by a qualified tree surgeon. This report has shown that one tree needs to urgently be removed and many of the others need their crowns reduced or branches removed to balance the trees for safety.

Now we come to the crunch, not literally we hope, but financially. Although our generous benefactors, the Viney sisters, left money for the maintenance of the church, this does not cover the churchyard. So we are asking for your help, to finance some of this work. The cost of the report and first tree is £700 and the total bill over the next year will run into the thousands!

Many of you have relatives and friends laid to rest for in our lovely churchyard and there is no charge to you for maintenance. So if you could help by giving us a donation we would be really grateful. If we cannot fund the work needed, we might have to close the churchyard again for safety and we really don’t want to do that.

You can make a donation • on line at; https://qrsecured.com/gjiyhf • By cheque, made payable to Arlesey PCC and sent to The Vicarage, Church Lane, Arlesey, SG15 6UX • Or cash to the same address
