MICHAEL’S FORMAL TRAINING IN FINE ARTS AND DESIGN BEGAN IN NYC AT THE JULLIARD SCHOOL, AND HE REMAINS A STUDENT OF 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY CLASSIC MODERN STYLE. At his Manhattan-based studio, Michael is continuously inspired by his surroundings, constantly engaged in the artistic vitality of the city. His work encompasses products beyond furniture - into textile collections, and lighting, while still retaining a modern sensibility. His original textile designs, introduced by Kravet, bring richness and appeal to the collection. The fabrics are elegantly layered and controlled, with every detail thoughtfully executed. Michael’s contribution to design was recently profiled in the book, Inspired Styles, published by Assouline in 2008.

Before Thom came into the public eye with his first television role as the design expert on the ground breaking series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, he was an emerging superstar of interior design with a prolific and respected New York City practice, Thom Filicia Inc (TFI). Founded in 1998 TFI clients include high profile celebrities, international luxury hotel chains, and prestigious clientele in the fashion, entertainment, media, real estate and finance industries.
Author of the highly acclaimed book, Thom Filicia Style, Thom is currently publishing his second book with Random House/Clarkson Potter titled, Hammered: Thom’s Guide for Renovation, Decoration and Entertaining with Style. The book is part memoir, part renovation manual and part entertaining guide and follows Thom as he sets about renovating and decorating a humble weekend cottage in his trademark style of classic simplicity with a modern twist. An environmentally conscious designer for over a decade, Thom received a Bachelor of Interior Design at Syracuse University’s School of Art and Design and has worked at the most venerable firms in NYC including Parish-Hadley, Robert Metzger and Jeffrey Bilhuber. He was a contributing author to The New York Times’ best selling book, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: The Fab 5’s Guide to Looking Better, Cooking Better, Dressing Better, Behaving Better, and Living Better, has appeared in multiple national advertising campaigns and partnered with some of the world’s most prestigious brands, including American Express, Audi, Viking, Kimberly Clark, Xerox and Electrolux.
