My warmest greetings to the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) as it holds its 47th National Convention and Business Meeting.
I am pleased to know that UAP remains at the forefront of efforts in promoting advancement and excellence in the field of architecture. Indeed, the organization’s commitment to build and design strong and reliable structures as well as provide resources and growth opportunities for its members will certainly lead to the advancement of your profession and the general public.

May this convention be a platform for architects and other allied practitioners to share ideas on how to make our built structures more resilient, more functional and futureready. We look forward to your creative endeavors as we bolster our infrastructure agenda, especially now that we are overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and moving along the path towards full economic recovery.
With your support, I am confident that we can fulfill our shared goal of bringing about stronger and more livable communities.
I wish you a meaningful event.

Rodrigo Roa Duterte
President of the Republic of the Philippines

My warmest greetings to the delegates of the United Architects of the Philippines’ 47th Annual National Convention! This year’stheme, Sibol, encapsulates all that we hope to achieve as a country after the two-year standstill brought by COVID-19 and in gathering to celebrate and strengthen your bonds of fellowship, you already sow the seeds of recovery among your peers and the profession at large.
My hope is that in the days that follow today’s convention, you continue to be the architects of progress that you already are and deepen existing collaborations you have with each other and in your communities. Widen your networks, so you may also widen the impact of your invaluable work. Share best practices and innovations, your plans and learnings, so that your skills and knowledge continue to be relevant in building well-designed structures—structures that go beyond providing shelter or making movement easier, but that also shape experiences, save lives, and build a nation that we can truly be proud of—one that is built on an indestructible bedrock of compassion and communal responsibility.

Our nation’s road to a future-ready society is still long and winded, but I have full faith the Filipino architectremains steadfast in their pursuit of the greatest structure we all hope to build: A fairer, more just, and more humane nation for all.

Message from the National Convention Speaker

I would like to extend my heartiest congratulation to the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) for their great effort in organizing its 47th National Convention and Business Meeting including the opening of the UAP Convention (UAPNC47), Exhibits, Arkilympics, General Assembly, Investiture of New Fellows, CPD seminars, and Fellowship Night.
Congratulation also to the United Architects of the Philippines, the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (UAP-IAPOA) and the only Accredited Professional Organization (APO) in the Philippines for the impressive achievement to receive the prestigious Professional Regulation Commission’s Most Outstanding APO Award for the 10th time.

The theme “SIBOL: Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards A Future-Ready Environment”, is very appropriate and timely, especially during the period when the whole world is affected by the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic has changed the way we work, interact, travel and live and has created many new challenges and great impact on the architecture communities. With higher vaccination rates and progressive migration from pandemic to endemic, although we hope to be able to eventually return to pre-covid-19 regime, we should take this opportunity to transform, reinvent and elevate our profession, so that it would emerge better and stronger and have a new normal that is more progressive and future-ready.
As Architects, what set us aside from the others is our ability to create and design and design is a key differentiator in a progressive creative economy. The architectural profession plays a very important part in shaping our lives, the society and the built environment. As such, it is important for all of us, through our respective organization to constantly upgrade, elevate, and promote competency in professional practice and to advocate the highest level of professionalism and integrity. These are essential to ensure we remain in the forefront of the building industry and meet the expectations that are entrusted by the public to us.
The COVID-19 crisis has not only escalated the adoption of digital technology, it also highlighted the importance of collaborative, responsive, and creative ways for the architects and the other stakeholders including the public to work together in a manner to bridge technology and design to deliver values. With the advancement of IT and communication technology, the world has become more globalized and smaller. While we recognize the diversity of our respective cultures, there is an increasing trend of cultural integration. Issues concerning our profession and the built environments are becoming more common and universal.
Architecture interacts with all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and it has a crucial role to play in shaping our lives. There is an urgent need to reinvent our design strategy to look at Architect’s collective responsibility and role for the future of the human habitat. Riding on digital technology, we will be able to improve synergy across the borders and extend the regional and international networks extensively and join the world conversation on how we can all work together to make the world a more equitable, inclusive and better one for all, ‘leaving no one behind’. The International Union of Architects (UIA) has mandated ‘2022: UIA Year of Design for Health’ to empower Architects’ design process with appropriate research methods for better outcomes so as to ‘Protect, Develop and Restore Health,’ to address the impact of the pandemic on our global environment. We hope all the Member Sections including UAP would adopt this as part of your initiatives and develop policy statement for your country supporting the values and priorities stated.
The other area that we must not forget is the concept of Architecture for humanity. We must ask ourselves, how does our profession contribute to equity amongst people and what, can we do, to facilitate peoples’ right to access to shelter, facilities, work and also to the city, education and culture and to minimize exclusion and discrimination. We must not lose sight of the fundamentals of our profession and that is to design architecture for all and for the community.

The UAP Convention, along with the assembly of eminent architects will surely serve as a great platform to share our common values, knowledge, experience and aspirations. It will also stimulate fruitful discussions on issues that confront the architectural profession, which will result in positive outcome. I would like to congratulate UAP for stepping up, tapping on innovation and digital transformation, and organising this National Convention and related events on a hybrid platform. This will definitely allow more meaningful participation from not just UAP members but also others from all parts of the world and foster closer bonds and making the events more inclusive.
My best wishes to UAP in all the events organized for your 47th Convention. ‘Let us jointly work together to make a meaningful difference’ Thank you

Secretary General (2021-2023), International Union of Architects (UIA) Past President ARCASIA (2013-2014)
Message from the National Convention Speaker

Greetings to my colleagues in the profession!
Here we are again, getting together for our annual national convention. Despite the unique events now happening here in the country and throughout the world, we are holding, anyway, our 47th UAP National Convention – with resolve, artistry, and strength of conviction.
What particularly calls my attention is our theme for this year – “SIBOL”. It is a very meaningful Filipino word which denotes springtime, growth, germination, and transformation from youth to adulthood.

Our UAP National President Armando Eugene C. De Guzman III expresses it so well and so positively, when he said that “UAP is facing a fresh year with new beginnings for NATCON and CONEX, as we all rise again to recovery thru “SIBOL”.
So, briefly, my message is for all of us to join in and celebrate the coming of SPRING! Halina at makisalamuha, makisaya, makisama sa pagsalubong sa TAGSIBOL!

Warmest felicitations to the participants and organizers of the United Architects of the Philippines’ 47th Annual National Convention and Business Meeting. As restrictions ease with the current better pandemic situation and as people worldwide adapt and embrace the new normal, this year’s Annual National Convention and Business Meeting theme, “SIBOL: Filipino Architects Reaching Up And Reaching Out Towards A Future-Ready Environment,” cannot be more fitting. The pandemic opened our eyes to a lot of things – especially those we lack but certainly have control over – and further highlighted the impact of climate change. Trained to be specialists and custodians of the environment, Architects play, now more than ever, a key role in creating a post-pandemic world by realigning goals to ensure that architectural plans and designs are responsive to the evolving needs of the public while still maintaining that beauty and aesthetic merge cohesively with utility and sustainability.

With this three-day convention filled with insightful and productive activities such as the Online Arkylimpics, General Assembly and Business Meetings, Investiture of New Fellows, Fellowship Nights, and Online Arkilympics, may there be free-flowing of ideas and abundance of perspectives to inspire Architects to step up and heed the call to lead the community in creating and innovating a future-ready environment. Learn from the past, be motivated by the present, and look forward to an exciting and prepared future.
On behalf of the Professional Regulation Commission, I wish you all an engaging and productive Convention.

Message from the Former Chairman of PRC

As a staunch purveyor of the practice of the architecture profession, it is indeed with great pleasure that I congratulate the officers and members of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) as they celebrate their 47th Annual National Convention and Business Meeting.
I laud the UAP for holding this timely activity now that we are getting our feet back up from the admittedly difficult times in our collective history, and focusing anew on the rebirth and regrowth of our personal and professional lives momentarily stunted by the pandemic. This is clearly elucidated in this year’s convention theme “Sibol: Filipino architects reaching up and reaching out towards a future-ready environment,” which zeroes in on the rebirth of the golden era of the architecture profession with practitioners who are cooperatively collaborating, working together, and sharing responsibilities toward the sustainable development of our communities and external environment.

I extol UAP’s leadership by continuously endowing with positive energy our Filipino architects in the assertion of their abilities to hold their own in this open market of competition through the educational opportunities offered to them in this convention. Having been a part of the Continuing Professional Development program for the Philippine professions, I enjoin the UAP to continue to spearhead CPD activities and events that will enhance the competitiveness of our architects as their invaluable contribution to the growth and progress of Philippine Architecture.
With great confidence, the UAP will continue its successes in its leadership and in all its worthwhile endeavors for the benefit of our Filipino Architects befitting of their recognition as one of the multi-awarded Accredited Professional Organizations in the country.
Mabuhay ang Arkitektong Pilipino!

My warmest greetings to all the participants in this year’s 47th Annual National Convention and Business Meeting with the theme “SIBOL: Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards A Future-Ready Environment” which will be held at the SMX Convention Center as well as in virtual platforms. After more than 2 years of not seeing each other face to face, we are all excited to see everyone in the flesh and be back to our regular self. With an expected 2000 delegates attending this year’s event, we look forward to enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship with our colleagues and friends in this annual event.

Congratulations to all the men and women who worked tirelessly in making this event possible. This herculean task of organizing such an event is appreciated by many of us. I personally experienced the stress and labor of putting together such an event being a UAP Convention Director in the past and just recently as over-all Chairperson of the 10th Philippine Professional Summit last October 2021 involving more than 5000 virtual delegates from all over the world.
With or without pandemic, UAP as a multi-awarded organization continues to be steadfast in its commitment to elevate, develop and promote the Filipino architect. We are indeed proud to be a member of this prestigious organization of Architects. Kudos to the leaders and organizers of UAP for running this organization like a pro. On updates regarding specialization, I am happy to announce that we completed the professional practice outcomes under the level alignment matrix of the first 6 specializations for Architecture. The resolution is under review by PRC and other regulatory boards at the moment. These six are Architecture Education, Green Architecture, Hospitality and Leisure Architecture, Hospital and Healthcare Architecture, Project Construction Management and Architecture Project Administration. We hope that they will be approved in due time. In the meantime, I wish for the big success to the organizers and to all the participating delegates.

It is with great pride and honor that I personally congratulate and commend the men and women of UAP on their 47th National Convention with the theme: “Filipino Architects reaching up and reaching out towards a future-ready environment.”
As we braved the challenges of Climate change, we are committed to ensure a better tomorrow by offering future-ready designs which have a sustainability at the center. The core objective of strategic urban planning for sustainable communities is the need to accommodate future changes by proposing a framework of future-ready building designs with the focus to bridge the gap between the traditional short-term outlook and the need for resilient and flexible buildings over the long term. As your newly appointed Member of the PRC Board of Architecture, I am proud and deeply honored to be part of this momentous occasion, and encourage each and every-one you be vigilant and strive more in protecting our noble profession.
Let us embraced the spirit of Peace, Love and the Light of Unity and always seek for the guidance of the Almighty GOD.

Message from the UAP National President

Greetings
On behalf of the United Architects of the Philippines, I would like to welcome everyone on this annual event that was deprived of us for the past two years. We held our 46th last year virtually and it has drawn huge success as we mastered the art of being in boxes in a screen.
This year, the pandemic is slowly dying down, and hopefully onwards to its full eradication. There is a saying that from every end, there would be a beginning, there is something we truly miss, even if technology held our sense together to feed our thirst of being together as social beings. We feel the new normal coming, a new beginning, a new hope.
The promise of new life is best exemplified with a sprout! “SIBOL, Filipino Architects Reaching up and Reaching out Towards a Future-Ready Environment”, is this years UAP National Convention theme that is timely for we are looking forward once again to see each other in person and feel the warmth of our hugs and handshakes and onwards to collaborating towards our vision of a more resilient environment for the benefit of all.

This year, under the very vibrant team with innovative minds led by NatCon 47 Director Ar. Minerva Rosel in conjunction with our ever reliable CONEX chairperson Ar. Armin Pamintuan and his team under the supervision of our Executive Director for Convention Assemblies and Exhibits Ar. Antonio Valdez, we can expect a very exciting, interactive, informative, and entertaining event that will happen this 2022.
We have very distinguished guests for this event as international affiliation officers

from the region will be joining our distinguished local architects to treat our delegates and members by sharing their skills and knowledge that would be helpful in this new normal that we are into. We also have a new LIKHA awardee for this year who will be honored for his great contribution in the field of Architecture. As Architects who evolved and now adapted to the new normal, It will be very exciting that we can connect faces to warm bodies as we rekindle with old friends, new ones we made online and personalities we look forward to be seeing. We still need to be very careful and vigilant as we venture together on this bold move to break away from the fear and trauma that has behest our life routine and let us be ourselves again as human beings who need each other to experience love and life.
Congratulations to the NAtCon 47 team
Congratulations to the CONEX 2022 team

Mabuhay ng UAP, Mabuhay lahat ng Arkitektong Pilipino.

My warmest greetings to all the officers, delegates, industry partners, and guests of UAP’s 47th Annual National Convention and Business meeting with the theme, “SIBOL of Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards a Future-Ready Environment.”!
Indeed, we are truly fortunate to be able to hold this face-to-face gathering of Filipino architects all over the region and the world amidst the pandemic. For the past year, we have learned to adjust to our current situation and with this, a lot of new learnings have bloomed within us, and multiple innovations have been discovered. Taking advantage of the technology we have, we now have this opportunity to gather and share these certain ideas wherever you may be, through a Hybrid convention set-up.

Being a Convention Director back then, I know how hard it is to organize this annual event; however, with the passion, commitment, and service that we devote to our beloved organization, the entire team can successfully work together. So, I would like to congratulate and extend my gratitude to the organizing committee of this year’s convention headed by Arch. Minerva C. Rosel and and Arch. Antonio A. Valdez, Fuap -Executive Director for Commission on Conventions, Assemblies and Exhibits for their great unity and effort they have exerted to make this UAP convention during this pandemic possible.
I am extremely excited to see our fellow architects in this convention. Mabuhay ang UAP! Mabuhay ang mga Arkitektong Pilipino!

In behalf of Area A Council and the Area A community, I extend my warmest greetings to the men and women of the United Architects of the Philippines on the occasion of our 47th National Convention. I congratulate those who worked hard for a job well done in making this event a success.

Message from the UAP Vice President for Area B

Warm greetings to our UAP colleagues, welcome to the United Architects of the Philippines’ 47th Annual National Convention and Business meeting (NATCON 47) and CONEX 2022 which will be held on April 20-23, 2022 at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, with the Theme “SIBOL: Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards a Future-Ready Environment.” After months of preparation in the midst of the Covid pandemic, the time has come for all of us, architects from local and international chapters, allied organizations, partners and industry friends, to finally enjoy the pleasure of celebrating this event face-to-face as well as through virtual platforms. Not just for us, members of the UAP, the theme is suitable and compelling.

Let me state my message in our native language;

As we commemorate our 47th National Convention, we are reminded of our obligations to serve not just for our beloved organization, but also our nation and the entire globe. Through self-initiative, each individual must establish a true culture of responsibility. Let us use this opportunity to renew our true and determined commitment to being a model Filipino architect.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Organizing Committee for putting together a well-organized National Convention for all Filipino architects. We appreciate and thank all of our generous sponsors and friends - our industry partners - for helping to make this event a success.
And most of all, we thank the Great Architect of the Universe for His continued blessings showered upon all of us.
Mabuhay Tayong Lahat !

Greetings and salutations, my colleagues in the profession. We, here at Area C, congratulates the delegates, OrCom and sponsors for this year’s UAP NatCon 47. It has been a long two years since we have not enjoyed the pleasure of seeing our good friends and colleagues during this yearly event.
Our NatCon is a tradition that I personally miss and I am delighted again to come and see that we are now adopting to the new norm - very much close what was the status quo before. I hope everyone here would have a great time in our seminars, fellowships, games and raffle draws. Also, let us be diligent and committed in updating ourselves with regard to our beloved organization through the messages of our national officers. Let us indulge ourselves in the essence of camaraderie and solidarity for the next few days.

Mabuhay ang Arkitektong Pilipino!

Warmest greetings from the MINDANAOAN ARCHITECTS!!!
It is again the time of UAP’s fiscal year that the Filipino architects all over the world converge and celebrate the profession through the National Convention. This year’s convention theme entitled “SIBOL” symbolize the upliftment of architecture, empowerment of the architect and growth of the built environment.
The pandemic named COVID19 has changed the way we live our lives. As problem solvers by profession, we all need to be creative and make important decisions to help in rebuilding our nation’s social, economic and health condition. Through the various seminars offered, together we will become more resilient, more competent and more engaged. We will learn about research and the academic practice. We will be exposed to the global trends in design. We will be exposed in public services through community architecture. Aside from the seminars, there will also be entertainment and games. By the hybrid nature of this year’s convention, the delegates can participate in the cyber arkilympics, virtual battle of the bands, online video games as well as arkitiktok.

All in all, we will experience once again that UAP is more than an organization...UAP IS FAMILY! My wholehearted congratulations to the organizing Committee of this year’s National Convention for making all of these and much more possible. I salute you.
So in resounding unison let us all shout “KITAKITS ARKI!!” Mabuhay ang United Architects of the Philippines! Mabuhay ang Arkitektong Pilipino! Mabuhay ang Probinsyanong Arkitekto!

Message from the UAP Secretary General

Greetings to all the members of the United Architects of the Philippines!
The last 2 Fiscal Years of the UAP have been faced with a lot of challenges brought about by the global contagion that affected the way we live and think. While most of us have been inoculated already and ready to face the world again, the experience of confinement allowed us to balance being productive, treading our trade as professionals and ensuring the best of health while doing so.

As individuals, there have been positive things that this experience actually allowed us to realize: • that being confined in our humble abodes can bring us closer to our family while doing our best to earn our keep; • that the essential things can still be effectively done with passion even remotely; • that thinking of the welfare of our loved ones always has to come first. As an organization, the lessons we learned from this experience have been propitiously made into our Corporate Thrust this year: • Servant Leadership • Unity in Diversity • Member First Through this 47th National Convention, SIBOL: Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards a Future-Ready Environment is a symbol of our collective effort to once again face the world with more consciousness and responsibility in creating a resilient and sustainable environment. Congratulations to the organizers of this annual event, particularly to Ar. Minerva Rosel, our National Convention Director for steering a lean but mean team of volunteer servant leaders for this great event.
Mabuhay po kayo. Mabuhay ang UAP! Mabuhay ang mga Arkitektong Filipino!

Message from the UAP National Treasurer

A warm hello to all the fine Ladies and Gentlemen of the United Architects of the Philippines! Greetings to all the delegates, industry partners, friends of the design and built-environment industry, honored guests of the 47th UAP National Convention (NatCon47) and Construction Exhibits (Conex) 2022!
It is a very opportune time to gather together as we rise up from the effects of this global pandemic. The tagalog word “SIBOL” means to sprout, to grow. This year’s convention theme is apropos to the times. We all know that it will be a challenge to all Filipino Architects to reach up and reach out towards a future-ready environment. Rest assured though, that your UAP—ang IAPOA ng Pilipinas—will be in lockstep with the Filipino Architect all the way!

Congratulations are in order to the NatCon47 organizing committee headed by the indefatigable Arch. Minerva Cabrera-Rosel and the Conex 2022 team led by the cool and composed Arch. Armin DG. Pamintuan. They have been ably guided by the ever-dependable Executive Director for Convention, Assemblies and Exhibits Arch. Antonio A. Valdez. Thank you dear teammates and co-workers in the field for your spirit of volunteerism and passion to serve.
Finally, allow me to express the UAP Management Committee and National Board of Directors Team’s gratitude to the general membership and construction industry stalwarts for the all-out support they have graciously given. We have weathered this storm called Covid-19. Sama sama po tayong SumIBOL!
MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT PO! MABUHAY ANG UNITED ARCHITECTS OF THE PHILIPPINES. MABUHAY ANG ARKITEKTONG FILIPINO!

Message from the UAP National Auditor

Malugod na pagbati sa lahat!
Warmest greetings to all the delegates of the 47th UAP National Convention on April 20-23, 2022 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
The theme for NatCon47 – SIBOL – Filipino Architects Reaching Up and Reaching Out Towards a Future-Ready Environment is very appropriate and timely, as this is the first major event of the UAP with a significant face-to-face component, since the COVID-19 Pandemic put us all on lockdown two years ago.

We in the UAP National Board have, for the past two years, faced the challenge of this global health crisis and I personally witnessed how our servant leaders embraced this by coming up with innovations in their respective capacities and responsibilities, particularly the Commission on Conventions, Conferences and Exhibits headed by Executive Director Arch. Antonio Valdez.
As the first major hybrid event of the UAP in two years, NatCon47 shall set the bar on how all our future gatherings will be held. In this regard, congratulations are in order to the Organizing Committee, led by NatCon47 Director Arch. Minerva C. Rosel, who have painstakingly paid attention to every detail, just to ensure that our NatCon47 experience, either physical, or virtual, or both, is enjoyable and meaningful.
After two long years, we are now able to meet again, face to face. Let us enjoy good fellowship with one another, while still keeping safe.
Mabuhay ang United Architects of the Philippines! Mabuhay ang Arkitektong Pilipino!
