he South Main district, or SoMa, is Little Rock’s most eclectic neighborhood, where historic charm gets mixed in with the creative beat of its residents and business owners. We love to stroll past the art sculptures that line almost every block, whether we’re headed to a vintage shop, an ingredientconscious restaurant or out to hear live music. It’s also a DIY crafter’s mecca with many one-of-a kind shops offering courses in everything from refinishing furniture to beadwork. It’s no wonder Southern Living named SoMa the “Next Great Neighborhood.”

Catch the district’s cool vibes at SoMa After Dark the first Friday of each month, when businesses stay open late with specials like pop-up ice cream stands, customized jewelry, happy hour and live music. One of the best farmers markets in Central Arkansas takes place at The Bernice Garden (Sundays April through November) where you’ll find locals shopping for farm-fresh produce and sampling prepared bites amid sculptures, crafts and live music. The ESSE Purse Museum offers one of the most unique collections to be found anywhere — it’s one of only three purse museums in the world — and the hundreds of 20th century handbags on display will leave you pondering the joys and struggles of the women who carried them.
