Q. WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU’VE LEARNED OVER YOUR CAREER THAT YOU’VE CARRIED WITH YOU?
A. We spend a lot of time talking about cultivating relationships and building our networks, etc. I like to take that a step farther, so I work very hard on cultivating and building relationships within our organization. Simmons Bank is full of talented individuals with a plethora of institutional and industry knowledge. I want to have incredibly strong relationships within the organization because those relationships and the knowledge I glean from those individuals make me a better leader, a better banker and honestly a better person. One of our Cultural Cornerstones at Simmons Bank is “Better Together.” I believe in that.
Q. WHAT TRAIT DOES THE MODERN BANKER NEED TO HAVE TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
A. Accessibility. No such thing as “bankers’ hours”. You must be willing and available whenever your customer needs you or the bank’s services.
Q. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG BANKERS STARTING THEIR CAREERS?

A. Communicate with your customers on a regular basis. It has never been easier to communicate than it is today. Phone calls should be returned and emails and texts should be replied to in a timely manner. Even if the reply is “I need to get back to you on this”. If you are not being responsive to your customers, they will find a competitor of yours that is!
Q. HOW HAS YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE MADE YOU THE LEADER YOU ARE TODAY?
A. Since I come from a non-banking background, my life experience is a little different! For almost twenty years I was fortunate enough to work for some of the best business people and leaders in the state of Arkansas. My wife’s family has a longtime family business in Conway, so I’ve learned a lot from her and her business as well. Lastly, my parents are both retired educators, and that gives me a whole different perspective on a lot of societal issues. I’ve tried to take the best of all those relationships and experiences and mesh them into a leadership style that serves my customers and fellow co-workers well.
Q. WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO ON YOUR MORNING COMMUTE?
A. Fox Sports or Fox Business, sometimes Bobby Bones!
