Synetra D. Hughes ★ BSBA’04 EDD’12, Fayetteville, is a program manager at the Center for Retailing Excellence at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. Johanna Hall ★ BA’11 and Justin Hall were married on July 19 and reside in Neosho, Missouri. Johanna was recently hired as the assistant director of communications for the Arkansas Alumni Association. Donnie M. Mathis ★ BSPA’11, Little Rock, graduated with a master’s degree in real estate development from the University of Maryland in May. He joined the staff at the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation in Little Rock in July.

In Memoriam James M. Smith ★+ BS’36, Harrison, July 26. He started his career as a high school principal in Berryville. He also taught math and science and coached football and basketball. In 1938, he started working for GD Searle pharmaceutical company (now Pfizer) in Chicago, retiring in 1978. Survivors: two daughters, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Barton Solomon BS’45, Chattanooga, Tennessee, July 7. She was a chemistry teacher and the owner of a wedding photography business with her late husband. Survivors: seven children, 11 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. John C. Blackshire BSCHE’47, Fayetteville, Sept. 18. A U.S. Army Reserve and U.S. Navy veteran, he worked as an engineer, the owner of a seed operation and as a certified public accountant. Survivors: his wife, Helen, one son, one daughter, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister.
