In Western Thought, the “nature preserve” is an area in which animals and plants are protected, and that has few buildings and homes; a proverbial island of natural seclusion seeking to retain the “primordial beauty” of a particular place, without man. The very concept of these boundaries has placed humans “above” nature, a mentality that has all but destroyed the co-evolution of humans and their environment. To bridge the two realms, an infrastructure is required that would serve as an archetype that facilitates and supports processes of engagement, understanding, and projection; an experimental laboratory exploring ways in which people can reinterpret their relationship with these reserves. Though framed from a positive standpoint, the true outcome of this dialogue cannot be predicted; regardless, in blurring the line, the project generates a co-evolution between the two halves of the sundered whole.

This project investigates the theme of surveillance through a series of rendered panoramic perspectives. The viewer is submerged into three dystopian worlds, questioning the relationship between the viewer and specimen; equally, the invasive nature of technology probes questions of security and personal privacy in today’s age. Are we ever truly alone?

To construct these imaginary environments, the team created perspective renderings to ground our narrative. Through 360 technology, the worlds were stitched together to create an immersive experience exploring the use of light, composition, and textures. Throughout the process, technical skills such as texture mapping, 3D scanning, sound design, and video animation were utilized in order to evoke the emotional qualities of the narrative.
