“Most know the term ‘Blue Plate Special’ from diners as it was usually their special of the day,” says Martina. “Our vision was to pay homage to the term but highlighting some ofour seasonal specials there. We goso faras toeven servesomeofthemonblueplates.”

Then the poutine section is, of course, in homage to the iconicdishnativetoCanadaofthesamename.

“Our breakfast take on the Canadian mainstay features nearly a dozen elevated versions of the dish. First, we swap the French fries for breakfast potatoes, but that is only the beginning” says Martina. “For example, we have the Gold Digga, which has a base of duck fat fried herb potatoes topped with my favorite Saint Cyrille curds and then brown butter hollandaise instead of gravy, not to mention poachedeggs,Berkshireroastporkandblacktruffles.”

Beyond even that, OEB offers a multitude of unique plays on eggs benedict, and a colorful assortment of morning sweets. OfnoteistheFrenchToastTrifle, whichispiledhigh and always turns heads when it comes out of the kitchen. Thedish is made by dipping two slices of local Noble Bread brioche into a rich batter made using eggs, cream, cinnamon, and ahint of orangebefore being cooked onthe stove until an almost-caramelized crust appears. The toast is then stacked on a plate with layers of lemon curd, a topping of both fresh berries and house-made torched pavlovas, which is a merengue-based beauty that is crispy outside yet fluffy inside. It is garnished with additional berriesandpistachiogravel.

There are certainly lighter fare options across the menu as well. Two guestfavorites arethe chia seed pudding, which is a beautiful blend of banana, coconut, coconut milk, chia, berries, maple syrup, toasted gluten-free oats, shaved almonds and pistachios, and the artisan breakfast sammy. It features pasture-raised eggs over hard with fresh Hass avocados, micro watercress, semi-dried cherry tomatoes, ciabatta, andmarket freshfruit.

‘Ordinary Angels’

Hilary Swank stars in

feel-good movie of the year after

giving birth to twins

Hilary Swank does not have to prove herself in Hollywood. The actress, who has always managed to keep her private life relatively private will next star in “Ordinary Angels.” She already has two Oscar statues and two Golden Globes to her credit, and the early buzz from her latest film is that she may be in Oscar contention once again. The faithbased film has gotten a lot of buzz ahead of its February 23 release and it appeals to all markets.

This is the kind of film and performance that has Oscar written all over it. The film follows the story of working-class hairdresser, Sharon Stevens.Shesingle-handedlybringsa community together for the purpose of helping a widowed father save his young daughter who is critically ill and needs a liver transplant. The subject of the film and the “underdog” nature of the fight for something noble and good is reminiscent of Julia Robert’s role in “Erin Brockovich,” that was also an Oscar-winning movie.

Swank is a private individual in celebrity circles and has not given any interview connected with the film ahead of the release of “Ordinary Angels.” That could also be because she is busy with her new twins that were born earlier this year Swank and her husband, Philip Schneider welcomed a boy in a girl in April 2023.
