Page 1

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, and a very warm welcome to Ffos Las Racecourse!

We’re absolutely delighted to have you with us today for what promises to be a fantastic raceday packed with thrilling action and competitive racing

First and foremost, we’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to today’s sponsor, DragonBet and Ascona Group Their generous support not only makes today’s racing possible but also helps us continue to deliver unforgettable events here at Ffos Las. We’re very grateful for their ongoing commitment.

Today’s card is made up of four hurdle races, two chases and a bumper to finish off the card. The feature race today is the Norton’s Coin chase which will be ran over 3 miles with a prize fund of £15,000 and we see nine horses go to post at 1.10pm Norton’s Coin won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1990 Norton’s Coin was trained by a three-horse permit holder, Sirrell Griffiths from Nantgaredig, Carmarthen

It was great to see some local connections at the Breeders’ Cup meeting in Del Mar last weekend when Gstaad won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf race on Friday, November 1st for trainer Aidan O’Brien Gstaad who was bred locally by Kelly Thomas of Maywood Stud, Pencader. This win makes Aidan O’Brien the most successful trainer in Breeders’ Cup history.

Evacuation

Procedures

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a highspecification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

MISTER BARCLAY is a consistent type on testing ground over hurdles and ran his best race on reappearance last season. He’s fancied to make a winning return, though Royal Rhythm is the sole runner with race fitness on his side and is feared as the main danger. Valens Bruyee goes well at this track and could be in the mix if back to his best on first start of the season, while Bataillon is one to note in the betting returning from an absence.
