Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of

these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a highspecification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Br

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

LONGEST TRAVELLER: INTERCESSOR trained by Dr R Newland & J Insole, Droitwich, 177 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

Strong cases can be made for INTERCESSOR and Uncle Dick, both of whom enhanced their good records at this course with recent victories. Choosing between them isn’t easy but Intercessor looks the more solid overall and he is marginally preferred. Poetic Force also goes well here and should be on the premises, while Liangel Hope, a C&D winner on his sole previous visit to Brighton last spring, would also have a chance if able to bounce back.

RACE SUMMARY

APEELING’s second at Yarmouth on her final outing last year is the best piece of form on offer and she’s liable to make a better 3-y-o, so she takes preference over Caribbean Wind, who shaped well on debut. Fahrenheit Seven is also worthy of consideration.

RACE SUMMARY

The vote goes to CLOUDY ROSE who scored over this C&D on her second run of last season and is taken to repeat the dose this time round with her recent reappearance spin on the all-weather likely to have blown away the cobwebs. Chinthurst rallied well when opening his account over 1 1/4m here 10 days ago and he is feared with this step back up in trip a good move. RACE SUMMARY

TENYATTA is one of many than have benefited from the switch to James Owen’s yard, scoring on debut for the stable at Wolverhampton in March before finishing a decent third at the same course last week. She remains on a workable mark and this stiffer test could help unlock some more improvement. Rasmah may well leave her maiden/novice form behind now pitched into a handicap, while Elforleather, Lightning Bay and Ronnie Raven are others to consider

A tricky race to weigh up but SCRAMBLE is arguably the only one that arrives in form having run respectably at Kempton last time, so she gets the tentative vote over One Hart, who drops in grade with blinkers on for the first time. Voodoo Ray is a definite player if fit for this return.
