Climate change and its ramifications is fast becoming an inevitability. As this happens, countries in the global south are the ones expected to suffer the greatest. Unfortunately, in spite of this, these countries are rarely included in the conversation pertaining to the potential solutions. Open Door, saw this as an opportunity to try answering these question of sustainability and reuse through a variety of small scale projects in the summer of 2021. Among, these was the plastic recycling project, where questions of class, culture and sustainability were raised and the role that architecture played in it.

The following images are some graphics made for this particular project. The comics aim to lighten a very heavy topic while also calling back to the tradition of reuse within Pakistani culture. It raises the question: “If we have done it before, why not do it again?” The three comics all reference well known jokes on how South Asian households reuse items often thrown away elsewhere.
