SPCC CESSNOCK SENIOR SCHOOL BUILDING
SHAC
This educational facility aims to strengthen a feeling of respect and independence among the students where they can embrace their learning opportunities. The architects have immersed themselves in educational theory and pedagogy, resulting in a bright environment that will inspire a thirst for studying, a contrast to sterile enclosed educational settings.
Located on the ground floor, students occupy classrooms with glazed walls that slide open onto the grass playing fields that welcome fresh air and a connection with nature. On the upper floor, students occupy inventive learning spaces within a double-height space, pods and booths for intimate classes, working studio groups or individuals that invigorate programmed or selfdirected learning. There is warmth and texture in the colour and materials with well-designed comfortable furniture that match the refined backdrop. A large senior common room has sizable floorto-ceiling windows that slide away, revealing an opening to the soothing panorama of nature. The combination of these features makes SPCC Cessnock Senior Building the epitome of what educational environments should resemble.
