ou can travel halfway across the planet and find out one common thread all of us share—we love to be loved. Hoban students set out on an experience of a lifetime and received more than they ever could have imagined this summer. Abhayadhama Human Development Centre in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, is a campus for boys from disadvantaged backgrounds where they can learn a trade, attend school and live in a close-knit community with other young boys and teens. They were an amazing example of what unconditional love looks like in the face of adversity. Father JosÊ is retired and living at Abhayadhama. He shared many of his missionary experiences in Northeast India with the group.
Fourteen Hoban students, Senora Pachy Bell and Mr. Jason Dzik traveled with the medical mission team from Holy Family Parish in Stow led by Father Mike Ausperk to assist in medical care. Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone! The students served as translators for the doctors, nurses and dentists during the medical brigades. In total, over 4,500 individuals and families where given medical and dental care who would not have been able to afford it otherwise.

This September Project HOPE will celebrate its third anniversary. Over 200 students each year take part in the homeless outreach every Wednesday evening regardless of the elements. We hope to only grow. Exciting plans are underway to find new ways to reach out and learn from our homeless friends throughout Akron. In Lewis County, Kentucky where 25 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, Glenmary Farm exists to live in solidarity with the inhabitants in the small, rural county. Hoban students spent the week living simply and in service repairing homes and spending time with the residents of Lewis County. Hoban Highlights | Summer 2012
