CARTOGRAPHY OF SOUTH PUERTO RICO
PRODUCT PROMOTION MEDIASCAPE
The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) has signed contracts for the purchase of 600 megawatts of renewable energy, primarily solar, wind and waste to energy. Over $1 billion in potential private sector investment is being pursued for a portfolio of wind, solar and waste-to-energy projects. Puerto Rico’s new Green Energy Fund will enable the Government to co-invest $290 million in renewable energy over the next 10 years. Through the Energy Diversification Act, the Government’s new targets for energy generation are: 12% of power generation through renewable and alternate sources by 2015, 15% by 2020 and 20% by 2035.
EOLIC ENERGY POTENTIAL Offshore wind farms offer a very high potential of electricity production in Puerto Rico. The two identified areas in the east coast (1,920 km2) and south coast (825 km2) can result in a total installed wind capacity of 13,725 MW.
WIND
WATER
Ocean waves have extraordinary potential. With close to 17,000,000 MWh of potential annual production this resource represents the largest, naturally produced, untapped energy resource for Puerto Rico.
GUAYANILLA, 45 MW
WINDMAR RENEWABLE ENERGY: A 45-megawatt wind farm in Guayanilla is being developed by WindMar Renewable Energy. The same firm is also developing a 4.5-megawatt project at a quarry in Ponce's Barrio Cerrillos that is large enough to supply the power needs of 1,500 families. WindMar made a $35 million investment using its own funds, and the project is creating 70 full-time jobs during the construction phase.

GUAYAMA, 24 MW PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER
OIL SOLAR DIRECTION Regional temperatures vary from 80 to 90 degrees farenheit during the day, and 70 to 80 degrees at night.
AES SOLAR: AES Solar Ilumina Project: A 24 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant in Puerto Rico. The AES plant will feature over 100,000 photovoltaic panels to generate solar energy. The project is located in the Jobos Industrial Park in Guayama.
About AES Solar AES Solar is a leading global solar energy owner and operator, with photovoltaic projects across the world – Italy, Greece, Spain, France, the United States, Bulgaria and India, among others. Energy production plants on an industrial scale connect to electrical grids that supply renewable energy to tens of thousands of homes and businesses.
ENERGY COST: AVERAGE ENERGY COST IN PUERTO RICO MONTH
Currently, approximately 69% of the annual energy required by PREPA is generated by oil-powered electric plants.
